Primary schools in Delhi will stay shut starting tomorrow as a result of the national capital’s increasing air pollution levels.

Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, and Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, reached the decision during a press conference on Friday, November 4.

Until the air quality improves, all schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be closed. All outdoor activities for all classes above Class 5 will also be suspended, along with the schools.

The Delhi Chief Minister stated during the press conference that he and his party officials are making all possible efforts to tackle the pollution crisis. He also stressed the importance of considering whether to use the odd-even strategy for automobiles. The schools’ reopening date has not yet been determined, though. It is anticipated to be declared once Delhi’s air quality improves.

On the other hand, in a similar decision that came in the wake of rising air pollution, schools in Noida and Greater Noida were ordered to teach the students until class 8th through online classes.

BJP levels allegations against AAP

In the meantime, the Delhi BJP on Friday asked the AAP government to order shutting down of schools in the capital due to severe air pollution.

While speaking at a press conference at the Delhi BJP office Shehzad Poonawala, the party’s national spokesperson, said that the AAP government should stop playing with the lives of the children and close the schools. “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is operating as a part-time chief minister of Delhi, should explain to the populace what measures his administration has made to reduce pollution in the city,” said Poonawala.

As raging farm fires and stagnant meteorological conditions drove the capital’s air quality index to the verge of the “severe plus” category, the sky over Delhi-NCR took on an ominous grey hue.
