Amazon is hiking the charges of its OTT platform in India beginning today, 14th December. From monthly to quarterly to annually, the price of Amazon Prime Membership subscription plans is upped by up to 50 per cent. The update of the revised subscription charges was informed by the company earlier this year.

The Prime customers will get an annual membership at a 50 per cent hike from today onwards. Currently priced at Rs 999, the updated cost which the customer will now pay is Rs 1,499. Its monthly pricing will also be up by nearly 39 per cent, that is from Rs 129 to Rs 179. The quarterly plan which was earlier priced at Rs 329 will now be lifted by 39 per cent and will now be available at Rs 459.

The e-commerce company had earlier reported in October to a leading tech website that it is planning to raise the price of Prime membership. Existing Prime members will be unaffected by the change since they will be able to use the membership for the rest of their subscription at no additional cost.

Even after the update in the subscription plans, the benefits of the Prime Membership will remain the same. One will continue to get free one- to two-day delivery to specified addresses, with no minimum order value needed for free standard delivery. The same includes access to Prime Video, Reading, and Music. Subscribers. Users will have daily access to exclusive top offers as well as 30-minute early access to Lightning Deals on the e-commerce site.

Amazon Prime membership was launched in India in 2016. It was initially priced at Rs. 499 a year, but Amazon raised it to Rs. 999 in 2017. In order to boost its membership base, the US e-commerce giant launched its Prime monthly subscription in the nation in 2018.
