Farmers protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws on Monday announced that they will march on foot towards Parliament from different locations on February 1, when the Union budget is scheduled to be presented.

A day before their mega tractor parade on the occasion of Republic Day in the national capital, farmer leaders talked about their plans to intensify their agitation during the press conference on Monday. The Kirti Kisan Union leader Dr Darshan Pal said that farmers on February 1 will march towards the Parliament on foot, against the three farm laws.

The march will be peaceful and the detailed programme will be declared in a day or two, said the farmer leaders. After the march ends, the farmers have been asked to stay on at the borders, said Balbir Singh Rajewal, president of Bharatiya Kisan Union.

Talking about their tractor’s march on Republic day celebration, the farmer leaders said it will be unique as ordinary people will become part of the celebrations. However, the Loni border saw tension between protesters and police as farmers tried to enter the national capital through an unapproved route.

The Delhi Police had given a no-objection certificate for the tractor rally on Republic Day, with 37 conditions, limiting the participants in the rally to 5,000 persons along with 5,000 tractors. However, nearly 2 lakh tractors have already become part of the procession today.

Thousands of farmers have been camping in and around the national capital for two months to put pressure on the government to withdraw three farm laws enacted by Centre. The farmers have been adopting different techniques since their protest launched in November.

The protesters had engaged in talks with the government several times. Recently, the 11th round of talks have been held but the deadlock is still continuing. The farmers have said they won’t stop protesting until the government rolls back what they call the black laws. While the Centre has  said that the laws won’t be repealed. It has however agreed to suspend its implementation for one-and-a-half years.
