In a latest development in Punjab Congress turmoil, Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the position of Punjab Congress President on Tuesday. This news came a few days after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the position of CM and Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed as the new CM of Punjab.

On Tuesday, Sidhu shared a post on Twitter in which he shared the letter that he sent to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. In the letter, he wrote that the collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner. He further said that he can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab.

He further added to it and said that therefore, he is resigning as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He concluded by saying that he will continue to serve the Congress party.

Now, the hasty exit of Navjot Singh Sidhu is indicating that it was a sustained campaign to dethrone Captain Amarinder Singh from the position of CM.

After Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the position, Captain Amarinder Singh in a tweet said that he already told so that he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab.

Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the CM post on September 18 and he said that he is tired of getting humiliated again and again. He said that this is the third time when the party called the MLAs, and he feels humiliated. He also said that as far as his future politics is concerned, there is always an option and he will use that option when the time comes. He further said that he is in the Congress party and will talk to his supporters and decide the future course of politics.

After his resignation, Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed as the CM of Punjab. According to reports, he is a close associate of Navjot Singh Sidhu. On September 20, Channi took oath as the CM and he became the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab.

A war of words between Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab Congress MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu begin on Wednesday after Badal called the cricketer-turned-politician a misguided missile.

Addressing press conference on Wednesday after paying obeisance at Golden Temple with his wife and former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Badal said Navjot Singh Sidhu is an uncontrolled and misguided missile that can hit in any direction including himself. He said Punjab doesn’t need a person who does acting but one who thinks about the development of the state.

Hitting back at Badal, the former cricketer replied in a tweet that he is guided and aimed to destroy Badal’s corrupt businesses and he will not relent till he wipes out corruption from Punjab. Sidhu also said until Badal’s Sukh Vilas is not turned into a public school and public hospital to serve Punjab’s poor.

The back-and-forth comes after Sidhu slammed Badal over his comment on a 2015 case involving the desecration of the Sikh religious text and police firing during peaceful protests.

Badal’s statement comes in a reply to a question asked by Sidhu’s over the probe into the 2015 sacrilege incidents. Sukhbir, who was the state deputy chief minister and held the home portfolio at that time, was questioned in the Kotkapura firing case by the Punjab Police special investigation team in Chandigarh on Saturday.

Hours before Sudhu’s comment on Badal, he had tweeted a picture with Priyanka Gndhi with  a caption had a long meeting with Priyanka Gandhi.

Last week Badal had appeared for questioning before the newly formed SIT in 2015 police firing case. After the investigation, he had accused current Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh for implicating Akali Dal leadership in false cases.

Cashing the opportunity of double swipe at Badal and Captain Amarinder Singh, Sidhu said six years since sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, justice has not deliver in the following 4.5 years of rule. He said, today, new SIT inches closer to justice for Punjab’s soul and Badal is crying for political interference which delayed Justice by six years.
