Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday said he is not in favour of complete lockdown in the states, said if the covid-19 situation in the state did not improve in upcoming days, strict action will be taken to break the covid transmission chain, Punjab CM said.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said a complete lockdown in the state is needed as the state witnessing the highest covid cases since the last few days, the step is a needed of the hour to control the covid situation in the states.

Sidhu said the situation in Punjab is not good, only 300 beds available at the L-3 level in the state. Hospitals were getting overloaded due to rising of coronavirus cases, Singh added.

In response to Singh’s statement, the Punjab Chief Minister said he had so far refrained from ordering a sweeping lockdown in the state. He said a complete lockdown in the state could hurt poor people, could lead to an exodus of migrant labourers, Punjab CM said.

Currently, Punjab is under a partial lockdown, only essential service is permitted in the state, transport is allowed to with 50 percent capacity with full focus on covid norms. DGP Dinkar Gupta has said with the help of his colleagues, they are working hard and make sure all the covid protocols are being enforced strictly in the state

No more Take-away deliveries

Amrinder Singh on Monday held a virtual meeting to review the coronavirus situation in the state, he ordered to stop take-away deliveries from restaurants and asked people to use only home deliveries of foods instead. He said during takeaway deliveries people go outside which has more chances for them to get infected by the covid.

20% increase in bed capacity ordered

Amrinder Singh ordered to increase covid beds capacity in the next 10 days. He ordered the Health and Medical Education Departments to get stadiums, gymnasiums and other such places ready to house patients.
