Diwali is back, and the marketplaces are filled with sweets, while the streets are vibrating with the sound of crackers and fireworks. However, no celebration is complete without the addition of more sugar and calories.

This year, it will be celebrated on November 4. The auspicious Hindu festival, Diwali is all about lights and food. With the decorated houses and shops in the lane and sweets beautifully arranged on the dining table, the festival spreads positivity and love all around.

Diwali is synonymous with sweets and one can not imagine the festival without binge-eating. Here are quick and easy sweets recipes to try at home this festive season.

Gond Ke Laddu

Ingredients:

  • Gond (Acacia gum and tragacanth gum)
  • Makhana
  • Ghee
  • Dry fruits
  • Seeds
  • Whole wheat flour
  • Dry coconut powder
  • Ginger powder
  • Powdered sugar

Recipe:

  • Take a pan and roast makhana until slightly browned.
  • Add 1 teaspoon ghee to the pan and fry poppy seeds.
  • Fry all the dry fruits.
  • Add 2 tablespoon ghee to the pan and fry the gond until browned.
  • Crush with a pestle to make a coarse powder.
  • Add whole wheat flour and roast on medium heat.
  • Add ginger powder and sugar to the mixture.
  • Lastly, pour some ghee and mix well.
  • Now, make laddus out of the mixture and it’s ready to be served.

Kalakand

Ingredients:

  • Whole Milk
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Pistachios
  • Cardamom powder
  • Clarified Butter/Ghee

Recipe:

  • Pour the milk in a pan and put it to boil.
  • Add lemon juice and wait for it to get curdled.
  • Drain the liquid and keep the extracted paneer aside.
  • Take another pan and start boiling another packet of milk.
  • Continue boiling the milk till it starts to thicken.
  • Keep stirring it while it gets thickened.
  • Cook the mixture for 10 minutes and add cardamom powder.
  • Add powdered sugar, ghee, and mix it. Keep cooking it.
  • Once the mixture gets the desired consistency, turn off the stove.
  • Grease a plate with ghee and spread the mixture evenly with a spatula.
  • Add pistachios and let it cool for 2-3 hours.
  • Cut it out in any shape of your choice.

Malpua

Ingredients:

  • Flour
  • Grated khoya
  • Blanched pista
  • Blanched almonds
  • Saffron
  • Sugar syrup
  • Ghee

Recipe:

  • Start from mixing water in the flour and try to avoid lumps.
  • Mix khoya with water and make sure it forms a thick batter.
  • Take a pan and melt ghee.
  • Add the batter in circular motion in the center of the pan.
  • After sometime, turn over the malpuas and cook again.
  • Cook of a while till the malpua turns reddish.
  • Now, dip all the malpuas in the sugar syrup.
  • Garnish with saffron, almonds, and dry fruits of your choice.
  • Serve it hot.
