At the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala, seasoned Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is playing in his 100th Test match for India. In addition, the 37-year-old recently became the fastest Indian bowler to take 500 Test wickets, shattering the mark held by Anil Kumble.

When Ravichandran Ashwin took the field for his team in the fifth and final Test match against England in Dharamsala, he became the 14th Indian player to play 100 Test matches.

Head coach Rahul Dravid facilitated him with a cap, where the entire team and Ashwin’s wife Prithi and his daughters joined him to commemorate the momentous occasion.

He addressed all the Indian players and gave Devdutt Paddikal his debut cap. As the fifth Test against England got underway, the seasoned spinner was also accorded a guard of honour.

Ashwin has become a member of the elite group of players who have represented India in at least 100 Test matches. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara are among those on the list.

Since making his debut for India against the West Indies in 2011, the off-spinner has been an important part of the team’s bowling attack. With an average of 26.5 and a strike rate of 53.9 in 99 Test matches, Ashwin has claimed 507 wickets.

By taking a fifer in his 100th Test match, Ashwin will have the opportunity to enter the ranks of legendary cricketers like Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Muttiah Muralidharan. It is remarkable because Ashwin had claimed his first five-wicket haul in his maiden encounter against the West Indies, and it would be an incredible achievement if he could secure another fifer in his 100th Test match.

In addition to Ravichandran Ashwin, Jonny Bairstow of England is participating in his 100th Test match for the national team.

During the second Test match between India and England in Vizag, R Ashwin created history by becoming the team’s highest wicket-taker against England.

Ashwin surpassed former India spinner BS Chandrasekhar to achieve the massive feat during England’s second innings of the 2nd Test  match. The series consists of five matches.

Ashwin was just two wickets away of breaking Chandrasekhar’s record into the Test match. But having lost all of his wickets in the opening innings, he was unable to go beyond him. The off-spinner, who had already dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, came back among the wickets in the second innings for the opposing team and achieved the incredible milestone.

In the eleventh over of England’s innings, Duckett was removed from the match by Ashwin, who then trapped the first batsman in LBW. Then, he succeeded in getting Pope to hit an edge of his bat, and Rohit made an incisive reflex catch at slips to secure his second wicket and reach the elusive milestone.

Earlier, Chandrasekhar, held a record of taking 95 wickets in 23 Test matches against England.

Meanwhile, when it comes to taking wickets in Test matches between India and England, Ashwin is currently ranked second. At the top of the list is James Anderson, who claimed three wickets in the first innings of the Test match.

The 41-year-old has taken 144 wickets at an economy rate of 2.69 in 36 Test matches, including six five-wicket hauls.

In addition to being an essential part of the Indian team with the ball, Ashwin is also a valuable player at bat. He also scored a century in a match against England in 2021 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Australia’s first innings of the 2nd Test against India has come to an end. The guest could only manage to score 263 runs amid the regular fall of wickets. Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja did build an opening partnership but the Hyderabad Sunrisers skipper was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for 15 runs in 44 balls. This was the first wicket for Australia.

Khawaja did tried to save the Australian innings and became the highest scorer of the innings as he walked back to the pavilion after scoring 81 off 125 balls. He was catch out by KL Rahul.

Next Mohammed Shami returned and took the wicket of Travis Head who scored 12 of 30 balls. Peter Handscomb remained unbeaten till the end and scored 72 of 142 balls. The last man standing need support from the other end too. But the Indian pacers and spinners took regular wickets.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins was dismissed by Jadeja’s LBW. He walked back after scoring 33 off 59 balls. His innings included 3 fours and 3 sixes. Todd Murphy was out with Virat Kohli’s brilliant catch, and the all-rounder walked back to the pavilion without even opening his account.

Lastly Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann was dissed for 10 and 6 of 26 and 12 balls.

Shami took 4 wickets, Ashwin and Jadeja both got 3 each and Siraj and Axar Patel had to settle with just 2-2 maiden overs.

With just a small score of 263, Indian batter will want to take a huge lead in the first innings so that they can take the game deep and easy. India will want to win the match and take a solid lead of 2-0 in the four match Test series of Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Ashwin said initially, most of the world saw Sharma’s actions as a crime but the opinion is changing now, there’s still a section of people who are resisting. In the beginning, the whole world saw it that way. But now, most of them have started realising that the bowlers didn’t commit any crime there, he said.

The team India spinner also said many of them have started asking why you are asking questions to the innocent instead of asking the person who should be guilty. Only a certain section of the people seems to have a problem with this, he said.

Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Monday surpassed the South African legend Dale Steyn who have taken 439 test wickets and become the 8th highest wicket taker of the Test cricket. He surpassed Steyn taking Sri Lankan batter Dhananjaya de Silva’s wicket that take his tally to 440 Test wickets during the final test match of the two match test series against Sri Lanka.

He also surpassed the recently deceased Australian leg spinner Shane Warne.

He made this achievement after taking four wickets during the second inning of the second test match against Sri Lanka at Bangalore’s M Chennaswami stadium. Earlier, he had surpassed the India’s 1993 world cup winning captain Kapil Dev’s tally when he dismissed Charith Asalanka in the Sri Lankan follow-on innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took India’s first innings total past the 450-run mark on Day 2 of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. They are looking comfortable at the crease as India’s total has gone past 450.

Jadeja has scored the second Test century of his carreer. Despite losing the wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin, India is still dominating over Sri Lanka.

With the help of Rishabh Pant’s 96 off just 97 balls and Hanuma Vihari’s steady knock of 58, India were 357 for 6 on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test.

Virat Kohli, who is playing in his 100th Test, were also looking comfortable during his stay at the crease on the first day. With the short knock 45 runs, the former Indian skipper has reached 8,000 runs in his 100th Test.

Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Embuldeniya took his wicket. Till the end of the second day, he returned with figures of 2 for 62. Meanwhile, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Dhananjaya de Silva and Suranga Lakmal also took a wicket each.

While, Rishabh Pant got his 9th test half-century as India took control in the third session of the opening day. Opener Hanuma Vihari (58) completed his sixth test half-century and added 90 runs for the third wicket with Kohli, who walked to the crease to a chorus of cheers. Sri Lankan team, who is playing its 300 test, pulled things back with two wickets in 4 overs.

The Sri Lankan Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne said he also would have chosen to bat first if he had won the toss, aiming to end a run of 20 tests in India without a victory.

After the post-match presentation, Ashwin took his Instagram story to share a hilarious picture of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja of India ad New Zealand. To those who do not know, there are two Indian born players in New Zealand team, named Ajaz Patel and Rachin Ravindra.

And Indian off-spinner did not miss the opportunity to capture a historical picture of Patels and Ravidras of both teams. Ashwin made them lined up in a way that it read ‘Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja’ on their jerseys. Maharashtra born Ajaz Patel is an off-spinner who plays for New Zealand side and achieved a remarkable record of taking all 10 wickets in a Test innings. Ajaz Patel’s bowling figure in 1st innings were 47.5-119-10. He also managed to pick 4 wickets in 2nd innings, taking 14 wickets in the match.

Who is Rachin Ravindra?

Rachin Ravindra who plays for New Zealand cricket team was born in New Zealand but his parents were from India and later shifted to New Zealand. Rachin was named after the legendary batting duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, his father was huge of both cricketers so he decided to name him by taking the initial two words of Rahul and Sachin and named his son Rachin.

New Zealand lost the 2nd Test match and series in Mumbai.
