Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday took an indirect dig at the central government as he extended special wishes and prayers for protesting farmers on the harvest season.

Gandhi took to Twitter to wish people across the country on the occasion of  Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bihu, Bhogi and Uttarayan. He tweeted that the harvest season is a time of joy and celebrations, happy Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bihu, Bhogi and Uttarayan. 

He also extended special prayers and wishes for farmers protesting against the three controversial farm laws, and for fighting for their rights against powerful forces, while making an indirect reference to the central government.

Gandhi has been backing the farmers demanding the repeal of the laws since the protests began. Thousands of farmers mostly from Punjab and Haryana have been protesting against the new farm laws near Delhi’s border for more than a month.  

Gandhi has been incessantly attacking the government over the ongoing farmers’ agitation. Yesterday also, he called out the Modi government, saying the government was not embarrassed by the martyrdom of more than 60 Annadata but they were embarrassed by the tractor rally. 

He had also slammed the government over its affidavit in the Supreme Court against the farmers’ proposed parade on Republic Day. In the affidavit issued by the Centre to the apex court, the government had stated that the disruption of the Republic Day parade will be an embarrassment to the nation.

Meanwhile, Gandhi will attend the controversial bull taming sport Jallikattu in Madurai on the special occasion of Pongal later in the day. Coming to Tamil Nadu today to celebrate Pongal and to attend the Jallikattu festival in Madurai, tweeted Gandhi.

Following which the Congress leader will start the party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu. The party is contesting the election in alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazagham(DMK).

The Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Ponducherry are scheduled to be held in March-April this year.
