Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind, who sworn in as India’s 14th President on July 25, 2017, will bid adieu to the Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow, after completing his full five-year term.

Kovind rose from a grassroots level politics and became country’s second person from the Dalit Caste, after KR Narayanan and the first member of BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) to hold the office.

And as outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind is leaving the Rashtrapati Bhavan, former Jharkhand governor and NDA (National Democratic Alliance) nominee Droupadi Murmu will occupy the top constitutional post, by becoming the second female president of India.

Droupadi Murmu defeated opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha and will be the first woman from the tribal community to become the Indian president.

While talking about his experience as the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind said during the farewell dinner organized by PM Modi, that serving the nation in any form was and will be an honour for him.

He also added that the key to India’s success is its diversity. “India’s unity in diversity is the core that makes our country so unique. We not only find a mix of states and regions but also religions, culture, languages, lifestyles and much more,” Ram Nath Kovind said.

During his tenure as the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has paid state visits to almost 33 countries and enhanced the global outreach and footprint of India. And during this time, he has received the highest State honors from six countries – Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Eswatini, Bolivia, Croatia, and Republic of Guinea.

In April 1994, Ram Nath Kovind was elected as a member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. He has served two consecutive terms of six years each till March 2006.
