Days after receiving backlash for his sexist remarks, Baba Ramdev issued an apology and stated that his statements had been taken out of context and that he had also pushed for women’s empowerment throughout his career. The yoga guru recently commented about women and their clothing while he was seated next to Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, during an event.

Addressing the yoga training event in Maharashtra’s Thane on Friday, Ramdev said women look good in saris, they look great in salwar suits, and they look good even if they don’t wear anything like him. This created an uproar on social media, and people started criticizing him for such remarks.

In an apology letter, the Patanjali owner said that he has always worked towards women’s empowerment so that women get a respectable position in society. He stated that he has always encouraged various policies within the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative of the Central government.

He further said, Hence, it is clear that he had no intention to disrespect women, and the clip being circulated on social media is out of context. He stated that, still, if anybody felt hurt, he deeply regretted it and apologized unconditionally to anyone who was hurt due to his statement.

An apology statement comes after Maharashtra State Women Commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar served a notice to Ramdev asking him to clarify his stand in two days. She tweeted that Baba Ramdev, alias Ram Kisan Yadav, had made a very low-level statement regarding women at a public event in Thane. Taking serious note of this statement, the State Commission for Women has issued a notice to Baba Ramdev alias Ram Kisan Yadav to submit his explanation within two days, the tweet read.

Ramdev has also been condemned by various opposition parties. Workers of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) staged a protest condemning Ramdev’s remark and garlanded his photo with a pair of chappals. Maharashtra Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant claimed that the Yoga guru’s real mindset has been exposed by his statement.

Amid a row over Yoga guru Ramdev’s comment against allopathy, Haryana government has announced that one lakh Coronil kits of Patanjali Ayurveda will be distributed among Covid-19 patients in the state free of cost.

State health minister Anil Vij tweeted, One lakh Patanjali Coronil kits will be distributed free of cost among the Covid patients in Haryana. Half of the cost of Coronil has been borne by Patanjali and half by Haryana government’s Covid Relief Fund, he wrote.

Ayurveda-based Coronil was introduced by Ramdev on June 23 last year. The Coronil kit contains three items– Coronil tablets, Swasari Vati and Anu Taila. During its launch, Coronil generated controversy, with Ramdev claiming that it was the first evidence-based medicine for Covid-19 made in the presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

Recently, Ramdev made a vitriolic statement on allopathy which drew flak from many medical associations. Harsh Vardhan in the strongly worded letter, also condemned his remarks on allopathic medicine as extremely unfortunate, following which the yoga guru withdrew his statements.

Meanwhile, Haryana has been witnessing a surge in Covid cases in its rural areas. The situation, which according to the state’s BJP government, has occurred due to the farmers’ continued participation in the protest against the Centre’s farm laws.

Addressing the ongoing shortage of oxygen supply in the state, Vij has said pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants will be set up in eight districts of the state in collaboration with the central government. The plants will be set by DRDO and will be completed by June 30, he said.

The Indian Medical Association asked Yoga Guru Ramdev to apologise for his comments on modern medical treatments in which he said more people died of allopathy during the Covid-19 pandemic than the virus itself.

The topmost association of Indian doctors sent him a legal notice demanding apology and withdrawal of his statement, calling it baseless and unscrupulous claims made for cheap publicity. The IMA said Ramdev had damaged the reputation of practitioners of allopathy and modern medicine when they are striving to save lives during the pandemic.

In a video that was widely shared on social media, Ramdev is heard saying at a recent event, lakhs of people have died because of allopathic medicines, far more than those who died because they did not get treatment or oxygen. He also purportedly called allopathy a stupid and bankrupt science.

However, facing a backlash over the remarks, Ramdev’s Patanjali group said the video had been edited and the statement taken out of context. Baba Ramdev had no ill-will against modern science and good practitioners of modern medicine, it said.

The Ayurvedic products group also mentioned that the event was a private event and Ramdev was reading out a forwarded WhatsApp message received by him and various other members who were participating in the event and what is being attributed against him is false and nugatory, it said.

Patanjali, based in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, added Ramdev believes that allopathy is a progressive science; and a combination of allopathy, Ayurveda and yoga will be beneficial to everyone during such difficult times.

Besides that, Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday lashed out at Yoga guru Ramdev for his remarks and demanded the Union health minister Harsh Vardhan to prosecute him under Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 or accept his accusations and dissolve the modern medical facility.

It also claimed that Ramdev had called doctors murderers in front of the Health Minister – a doctor himself – during the release of his wonder drugs.

Baba Ramdev on Friday released a research paper and claimed that it was the first evidence-based medicine for COVID-19 by Patanjali– Coronil. The paper was released in the presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

News agency ANI reported that Ramdev claimed that the research paper would clear all the suspicions about Pantanjali’s ayurvedic medicine for Covid. He said when his company launched Coronil, people raised questions on its validity and asked if we followed scientific parameters. People think research can only happen in foreign countries. With this research, Patanjali has cleared all suspicions about Coronil, he added.

Ramdev said the government has given the green signal after conducting all the scientific research based on the international parameters. The country and the world also agreed, the WHO also agreed and now Patanjali has the option to sell Coronil in more than 150 countries with scientific evidence, he added.

Last year, Coronil was licensed as an immunity booster after a huge surge in the number of coronavirus infections in the country. Patanjali’s claims about the clinical trials and the evidence were questioned, and the central Ayush Ministry ordered it to stop advertising it as a Covid cure. Today, in the presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Patanjali claimed that Coronil was the first evidence-based medicine to fight Covid.

The Haridwar based company claimed that the Ayush Ministry has now approved the Coronil tablet as a supportive Measure for Covid-19.

While Ramdev released the research papers at an event, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said people’s faith in Ayurveda had increased by time and all forms of medicines should work in harmony to boost the healthcare system of the country.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday (May 4) lodged a complaint against Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury for promoting enmity between communities on religious ground and hurting the ‘sentiments of Hindu’.

Ramdev lodged his complaint after Yechury was heard saying, “Hindus can be violent which is evident by Hindu mythologies Ramayana and Mahabharata.”

Ramdev led a delegation of seers to submit his complaint to Haridwar’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Janmejaya Khanduri.

Confirming the complaint, SSP Khanduri said, “Police have received a complaint from Baba Ramdev in which he accused Yechury of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by making derogatory remarks against Hindu mythologies like Ramayana and Mahabharata.”

After receiving the complaint, Khanduri directed the local police to take required action on the complaint after which a case was registered.

“Based on the complaint we have registered a case against Yechury for promoting enmity between religious communities under section 153(a) of IPC. Investigations are on,” said sub-inspector Thakur Singh Rawat, in-charge of Roori-Belwala checkpost.

Earlier before lodging the complaint, Ramdev addressed a press conference along with other seers comprising ex-ShankaracharyaSwami Satyamitranand, Mahamandaleshwar Harichetnan and Maharaj during which he attacked Yechury for his statements.

“By making such a statement against Hindus, he has committed a sin ob both religious and social grounds. Calling it a national crime won’t be wrong,” he said.

He added, “Yechury whose own name comprises name of lord of Ram, should be ashamed of what he has said. He should change his name to Kans, Babar or Ravana.”

Ramdev called for the boycott of communists in the country.

“People should launch a protest against them in states where they are in power. They should also burn their effigies and this should continue till he offers an unconditional apology for hurting sentiments of crores of Hindus,” he stated.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
