On Thursday morning, a man accused in a rape case purportedly attempted suicide in Uttar Pradesh police custody while he was brought in for interrogation.

Accused Panna Lal brought for questioning at Budaun, UP’s Ughaiti police station, he attempted to hang himself with his pants inside the bathroom of the police station.

As per the police, a local court in Budaun issued a warrant against Lal in connection to a rape case of a minor girl in 2019. The police said they caught Lal while he was attending a function and brought him to the police station today.

An hour later, Lal asked a constable for toilet, who took him to the toilet and guarded outside the door. After some time when Lal did not open the door, the constable inform the other cops present who broke open the toilet door and allegedly found Lal attempting suicide, said the police.

Superintendent of Police(SP) OP Singh said Lal was immediately rescued and rushed to the hospital, the doctors then referred him to a Bareilly district hospital.

Lal’s family blamed the police and alleged that he was tortured by the cops for a bribe worth Rs 10,000, which he failed to arrange.

Lal’s brother Rishi Pal told media that the police personnel at the station demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Lal and after he refused to their demands the cops assaulted him and tried to kill him.

SP Singh denying the allegations of Lal’s brother said, the accused is now out of danger.

In a similar incident two days ago, a gang-rape accused was found hanging in Jharkhand’s Hussainabad. Sachin Thakur was among the 6 accused in a rape case of a SC girl.

There have been similar cases in the past of rape accused committing suicide after they are caught for the heinous crime by the police.

A man accused of abducting and raping a minor girl was garlanded with shoes, stripped naked and paraded around while being assaulted by a mob in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the 19-year-old, who is accused of abducting and raping a 13-year-old girl, was stripped naked by some people and paraded around the area with a garland of shoes around his neck in Bhukri Tekri area of Indore city on Monday.

A senior police official said the cops took cognizance after the video of the incident surfaced on social media platforms today.

Confirming the video’s authenticity, Kanadiya police station in-charge Jagdish Prasad Jamre, said the 19-year-old accused was arrested on Wednesday for the alleged rape and kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl, adding the victim’s medical examination has confirmed that she was sexually assaulted.

The senior officer said that before the accused was arrested, the rape victim’s family and relatives, stripped him naked and paraded him around the area with a garland of shoes around his neck.

The accused was also thrashed by the victim’s family and while being paraded naked, he was whipped by children while women surrounded him and cursed him.

Giving details, officer Jamre said the accused, identified as Ritik, allegedly persuaded the minor girl to accompany him to a secluded area near the Indore Bypass where he raped her. However, the girl’s family who were looking for their daughter, found them, brought the man back to Bhuri Tekri area, where they punished him by parading him naked with a garland of shoes around his neck as children whipped him while the women hurled curses.

He said the young man has been booked for rape and kidnapping under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), while the people who assaulted him have also been booked in a separate case.

A video of jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain lying on a bed and taking a foot massage has been circulating on social media for a while. However, the Arvind Kejriwal party claimed that these were physiotherapy sessions. In another twist and turn, the reports state that the masseur in the video is a rape accused and not a physiotherapist.

According to the Tihar Jail report, the person giving VIP treatment to the AAP leader identified as Rinku is not a physiotherapist but a prisoner. The AAP insisted, saying that the leader was undergoing physiotherapy sessions. However, the jail authorities have refuted these claims and said that the person giving therapy is a criminal who was booked under charges of raping a minor.

Rinku, son of Tarachand, was charged under Section 6 of POCSO and Sections 376, 506, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The video surfaced on social media days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case. Earlier this week, the Tihar Jail superintendent was suspended for giving VIP treatment to the AAP leader inside the jail.

ED in a court claimed that Jain was allegedly receiving special privileges in the Tihar Jail. While concluding its arguments opposing Jain’s plea in the money laundering case, the federal investigation agency made the proposal before Special Judge Vikas Dhull.

Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the ED claimed that unidentified people were giving foot massages to Jain even beyond curfew hours. He was also given special food. Additionally, he shared CCTV footage with the court and alleged that Jain spent the majority of the time either in a hospital or a jail enjoying various amenities.

The AAP had dismissed the allegations as absurd and baseless.

In a horrific incident, a man accused of rape rammed into a security manager while he was trying to flee the clutches of the police. The incident happened on Tuesday evening in Noida’s Amrapali Zodiac, located in Sector 120. The CCTV footage of the incident is circulating on social media.

In the video, it can be seen that the accused was driving his Sedan at a high speed while making a getaway from a police team. The security in charge, Ashok Mavi, tried to stop him as soon as he entered the society grounds, but instead, he rammed into his car carrying Mavi on the bonnet and seriously injuring him.

According to the reports, a case has been registered against him around a month and a half ago for raping a former colleague at an electrical equipment manufacturer. The police said the accused, who currently works as a general manager at a Gurgaon firm, has been on the run since then.

Sharad Kant, Station House Officer (SHO) of Noida’s Sector 113 police station said on Tuesday evening, the police got information that he was at his apartment in Tower D of Zodiac. He said after learning about their presence, the accused tried to escape, seriously injuring Mavi, who was guarding the gate.

Mavi was immediately rushed to the hospital by the police. He has suffered injuries to his shoulders and legs.

Mavi stated to have been on the phone when he saw the speeding car coming out of the basement. He signalled to it to slow down as residents walk around in the complex. But the driver came straight at him.

He said, he was struck inside the compound, but the impact was such that he fell outside the gate. He had time to move aside while his car was stalled at the gate. But in no time, he sped away again. He could have crushed him, he added.

The police said that the accused has been booked in another case under sections 279 (rash driving), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 338 (causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Following the gangrape of a minor girl in Madhusudangarh area of Guna district in Madhya Pradesh, the father of the accused got his own house demolished.

The father of the accused, resident of Kherkhedi area, was so humiliated by the abominable act of his son that he called labourers at his own expense and got his house razed down.

Notably, Nitin Yadav was among the accused of gang rape a 17-year-old girl was in Kherkhedi village. The reports claim that the accused youth had given the teenage girl a call to meet him at the farm and committed atrocities with her instead.

However, the police, showing readiness, arrested the accused till late night. On receiving information about the case, the father of the accused is very embarrassed and to punish himself, he has started getting his house demolished.

In the viral video, the father of the accused is heard saying that there must be some lack of values, he taught his son, that is why such an incident happened.

He further says that his son, Nitin Yadav, has committed a mistake, so the police have arrested him last night and sent him to jail.

“I am embarrassed by the mistake of my child, so I am getting my house demolished by myself,” the man says. The camera focus then shifts to the labourers, who are seen demolishing the walls of the house.

Guna district has been in headlines for the gangrape of the minor girl. In connection with this incident, the citizens staged a demonstration, demanding the house of rape accused in Madhusudangarh to be bulldozed.

The citizens have given an ultimatum of 48 hours to the administration.

The Congress party on Sunday has set up a committee to inquire about the manhandling incident against women congress worker in district Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. The committee has sought an explanation by the party workers on the incident and asked them to submit its report to the party within three days while two workers have been suspended from the party.

After an attacked by the party workers on Saturday, Yadav demanded action from party high command. She also lodged a police complaint against four office-bearers of the party, including the district president Dharmendra Singh, Vice-President Ajay Singh and two others for attacking, abusing and assaulting her.

Tara Yadav, a Congress member on Saturday was beaten up by the party workers in a meeting for allegedly questioning about the party’s decision to field Mukund Bhaskar, a rape accused from Deoria Assembly seat in the upcoming assembly bypolls. The Deoria Assembly seat was left vacant after the death of BJP MLA Janmejay Singh.

Opposing the party’s decision on fielding Bhaskar from Deoria Assembly seat, said the decision was wrong especially at a time when the countrywide is outraged over the Hathras gangrape case. She further said on one hand, our party leaders are fighting for justice for Hathras case victim, and on the other hand, party is giving tickets to rapists.

The National Commission for Women also took note on the incident and demanded strict action against those who assaulted Yadav. Demanding an immediate action, the NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh for swift investigation into the matter. The Commission has also sought security for the woman and her family. The commission also tweeted that NCW India has taken cognisance of a woman worker being beaten up by supporters of a leader in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh.

Mukund Bhaskar Mani Tripathi is a long-time member of the Congress party and is contesting from Deoria Assembly seat. As the nomination to the bypolls in seven Assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh began on Friday, the Congress finalised the name of five candidates. The party had earlier declared its candidate for the Bangarmau seat in Unnao. The voting will take place on November 3 and the counting of votes on November 10.
