The Delhi High Court has received a petition asking for the suspension of SpiceJet’s flying operations. This comes at a time when the airline has reported multiple technical faults in the last few weeks.

The plea has been filed by the lawyer Rahul Bhardwaj, under which he stated that the airline has reported numerous malfunctions recently. In order to avoid further danger for the passengers, it is better for the airlines to stop their operations. In the appeal, he also requested the concerned department to look into Spicejet’s management practices.

However, SpiceJet has already received a show-cause notice from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 6. In the notice, the authority stated that the budget airline has reported eight incidents related to technical fault in the last 18 days, including pressurisation issues, a cracked pane in a windshield, bird hits, a malfunctioning of the fuel indicator, door warnings, smoke in the cabin among other. On this, the DCGA asked the airline why no action has been taken against such problems.

Meanwhile, the DGCA further claimed that SpiceJet’s Delhi-Dubai flight on July 5 had to be diverted to Karachi because a malfunctioning fuel indicator had given an incorrect indication of an unusual fuel level. On the same day, a SpiceJet flight from Kandla (Gujarat) to Mumbai witnessed a windshield fracture when the aircraft was in the air at a height of 23,000 feet. The plane was compelled to land in Mumbai quickly.

Again on the same day, the pilots of a SpiceJet cargo flight from Kolkata to Chongqing (China) discovered that the weather radar was broken, and they were obliged to return to the airport after takeoff. Aviation experts claim that such factors, including subpar maintenance, and inadequate staffing putting the airline in a weak spot. Such negligence also can cause big accidents in the coming future, experts added.
