Ripudaman Singh Malik, who was acquitted in the 1985 Air India bombing case because of a lack of evidence, was shot dead in Canada on Thursday at 9:30 am. The reports state that he was on his way to his office when the incident occurred. The police called this attack a “targeted shooting.”

According to the media reports, three bullets were fired at him and they hit Malik’s neck. The police were informed immediately and they confirmed that Malik died of injuries. While giving a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police didn’t reveal the identity of the victim and said a man was found suffering from gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Reportedly, a Sikh philanthropist was shot outside his clothing business in the area of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Who was Ripudaman Singh Malik?

Ripudaman Singh Malik had previously backed the Sikh separatist Khalistan movement, said reports.

Ripudaman was one of the accused in the bombing of the Air India Flight 182 Kanishka but he was acquitted in 2005 after his name was removed from the black list.

All 329 passengers and crew were killed when Air India Flight 182 was bombed in 1985 off the coast of Ireland. It is one of the deadliest acts of airborne terrorism. 

A bomb explosion at Japan’s Narita airport was another connected incident. Two employees who were putting luggage on an Air India flight were killed in an explosion. The two suitcases were tracked back to Vancouver.
