The Samyukt Kisan Morcha’s review meeting on the progress of promises made by the Centre is underway at the Gandhi Peace Foundation at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in New Delhi and will continue till 5 p.m.

The meeting has planned for deciding on the future course of action on setting up a panel on MSP and in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. The agenda of the meeting is to review the progress made on the assurance letter given by the government on December 9, 2021.

The SKM had protested against the Centre’s three farm laws for over 1.5 years at the Delhi borders. The farmers protest was ended on December 9 last year after the government revoked the Centre’s three farm laws and agreed to consider its six other demands, including withdrawal of cases registered against farmers during the protest, a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) and compensation for kin of farmers who died during the protest.

Now, the farm unions have threatened to resume protest if the govt does not fulfil its commitments on MSP panel and withdrwal of cases against the protesting farmers.

The meeting will also decide on Centre’s assurance on legal guarantee of MSP and building of a memorial for the farmers who died during the last year’s protest against the farm laws.

Apart from several internal issues, the meeting will also review the performance of farmers union in the Punjab Assembly elections.
