Delhi government has scrapped the penalty for not wearing masks in public places. The state health department on Friday issued an order a day after the Delhi Disaster Authority agreed to lift the rule. No penalty will be imposed for not wearing masks with immediate effect till further orders.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, and other senior officials. However, the officials have still urged everyone to wear masks in public places. The national capital fined Rs 500 from people without masks.

On Wednesday, Delhi recorded only 123 Covi-19 cases, 1 death, and 109 recoveries. The active cases in the national capital stood at 459. Additionally, a total of 2,33,27,952 precaution doses have been administered to people of age more than 60 years that including 44,74,440 doses to Health Care Workers, and 68,97,755 doses to Frontline Workers.

India has seen a sharp dip in Covid-19 cases. On Saturday, the country reported 1,260 new cases, taking the total number of coronavirus infections to 4,30,27,035, the data released by the health ministry said. Earlier, the Centre had advised the Union territories and the states to discontinue the Covid-19 containment measures given a decline in the number of Covid-19 cases across the country.

On Saturday, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 184.52 crores, as per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The ministry also informed that so far 1.81 crore adolescents have been provided with the first dose.

In other news, lemon prices in Gujarat have surged above Rs 200 due to the shortage of supply and rise in the demand for citrus fruits. The price of petrol and diesel has also surged by Rs 80 paise on Saturday. Read the full report here.
