Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, has seen his wealth surge by $6.2 billion in just a week as shares of his flagship company Reliance Industries rallied just over 10%. According to Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Ambani’s net worth stood at $83.2 billion (or Rs 6.07 lakh crore) on Tuesday (June 1, 2021) as compared to $77 billion (or Rs 5.62 lakh crore) on May 23. As per the latest data available on exchanges, Mukesh Ambani holds 49.14% stake in Reliance Industries. RIL shares climbed half a percentage point Tuesday to close at Rs 2,169 apiece.

The rally in RIL shares has helped the benchmark Nifty scale record high this week as the Mukesh Ambani-owned company has nearly 12% weightage in the benchmark index. US President Joe Biden, in a bid to boost vaccination rates among adults, launched a new incentive: Drink a beer, sit back for a haircut — and get your COVID-19 vaccination.

President Biden aims to inoculate 70 per cent of the US adult population by July 4. “We’re asking the American people for help,” Biden told AFP, adding that country is nearing its goal of getting 70 per cent of its adults vaccinated. Google, the US-based search engine giant, on Thursday found itself at the receiving end of severe criticism over its search results that returned Kannada as the answer to a question on India’s “ugliest language”. According to the image shared widely on social media, the answer to a question, “What is the ugliest language in India?” was Kannada.

“The answer is Kannada spoken by around 40 million people in south India,” according to a screenshot of the search results. The backlash from the Kannada language speakers, which is one of the national languages in the country, was so spontaneous that Kannada was trending on microblogging site, Twitter across the country. Other hashtags like KannadaQueenOfAllLanguages also continued to trend on Twitter. Google later deleted the response that had offended people, saying the search results weren’t always perfect.
