The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday ordered a probe over a viral Noida-base private university exam question asking about the similarities between the Hindutva and fascism.

The UGC sought a detailed report from Sharda University explaining their actions to ensure that such incidents will not occur in the future.

In a communication to Sharda University, the UGC said it has been noticed that the students objected to the question and filed a complaint with the university. Needless to say that asking students such a question is against the spirit and ethos of India, which is known for inclusivity and homogeneity and such questions have not been asked, the higher education regulator communicated to the Noida-base private university.

In a statement, the university felt regret over the exam question saying such an incident has taken place that may have the potential for fomenting social discord.

What was the question?

The BA (Honours) first-year Political Science paper asked the students about the similarities between Hindutva and fascism. Do you find any similarities between Fascism/Nazism and Hindu right-wing (Hindutva)? Elaborate with arguments, the seven marks question asked.

After the exam question went viral on social media, the university formed a 3-member subject expert committee to look into the possibility of biases in forming the question. The Noida-based private university has also issued a show-cause notice to the faculty member who had set the question paper.

The Central Board of Secondary Education had recently dropped comprehension passage questions from the Class-10 English exam paper following an outrage that the board allegedly is promoting gender stereotyping and supporting regressive notions. Later, the CBSE had given full marks to students for the question.

An accident on the Noida Expressway on Saturday killed one person, after a Swift Dzire attempted to overtake Lamborghini. The driver of the Swift Dzire have been arrested by the police, reports NDTV.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The CCTV footage shows the Dzire was deviating from its lane and was trying to move where Lamborghini was driving. Following the interception, the Lamborghini moved to the other side, hitting an Eeco, which tumbled and landed outside the expressway, killing the driver.

The victim, Arshad Ahmed, was a resident of Delhi’s Mandawali. He was taken to Jaypee Hospital in Sector 128 of Noida, where he was declared brought dead.

However, Mohnish Khan, who was driving the speeding Dzire has claimed that the Lamborghini was trying to overtake his vehicle, and hence, he overtook it after that.

Vedpal Pundir, a station house officer at Expressway police station said, “We are trying to verify whether the Lamborghini too made an error. Its driver has not been identified so far and we will see if the person is guilty.”
