Indian athletes at Tokyo Paralympics 2020 continue to shine with their spectacular performance. The nation on Saturday woke up with double happiness as Manish Narwal bagged a gold medal while Singhraj Adhana won silver in Mixed 50m Pistol (SH1) at the ongoing Paralympics.

With 19-year-old Manish Narwal creating a Paralympic record, India has marked its third gold. Manish scored a total of 218.2 in the final and his teammate Singhraj Adhana scored 216.7 in the final.

In the qualifying round, Adhana qualified for the medal round in fourth place with a total of 536 while Narwal shot 533 to reach seventh at the Asaka Shooting Range.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi congratulated the para-athletes on their victory. Taking it to Twitter, he wrote, “Glory from the Tokyo #Paralympics continues. A great accomplishment by the young and stupendously talented Manish Narwal. His winning the Gold Medal is a special moment for Indian sports. Congratulations to him. Best wishes for the coming times. #Praise4Para.”

Congratulating Singhraj Adhana, he wrote, “The outstanding Singhraj Adhana does it again! He wins yet another medal, this time in the Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 event. India rejoices due to his feat. Congrats to him. Wishing him the very best for the future endeavours. #Paralympics#Praise4Para”

Earlier, Table Tennis player Bhavinaben Patel won silver for India and became the only second Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics. Nishad Kumar clinched a silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event with an Asian record effort of 2.06m on August 29.

Bagging a gold medal, Avani Lekhara made history and became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal ever. She made a Paralympic record and a world record-equalling a total of 249.6.

Yogesh Kathuniya won the second medal for India and clinched silver in the discus throw. He threw the disc to a distance of 44.38m.

Singhraj Adhana has bagged the bronze medal in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event at the Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday. With this win, India has now won a total of eight medals in the Tokyo Paralympics.

Singhraj made a shot of 216.8 and finished as third in the game after qualifying for the eight-man final as the sixth-best shooter. This time in Tokyo Paralympics 2020, India has won more medals than in the 2016s Rio Olympics.

China’s Yang Chao and Huang Xing won the gold and silver in the game. Chaon won by shooting 237.9 and Huang managed to win silver by shooting 237.5. There was another Indian in the final, Manish Narwal, and he topped the qualification stage with 575, and he finished at seventh.

Singhraj hails from Haryana’s Bahadurgarh and he suffers from a limb impairment. He also said in an interview that he faced trouble to make ends meet. He further said that his wife is the real reason behind his success as she sold her jewellery to support his career in the shooting.

On the career front, Singhraj made his international debut in 2018 and he won the 10m air pistol SH1 silver at the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup that took place in Al Ain, Dubai. Later, Singhraj won several medals at the various Para games.

Earlier, Rubina Francis finished seventh in the women’s 10. air pistol SH1 final of the Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday. Rubina made the final world record before Tuesday, and he shot 128.1 points at the Akasa Shooting Range in Tokyo. However, she was eliminated in seventh place at the Akasa Shooting Range. She was the second shooter to be eliminated in the eighth-member final game.
