The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 to 204.4 mm in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh from August 22nd to 24th. According to the IMD, there is a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall in select districts, including Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, Mandi Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, and Kullu today. Furthermore, the weather department predicts that numerous places across the hilly state will experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

Due to ongoing landslides and continuous rainfall, educational institutions in the Kangra district’s Dharamshala will remain closed on August 23rd, as ordered by the Sub Division Magistrate of Dharamshala and as per reports. Similarly, in Shimla district, all educational institutions and Anganwadis will be shut on both August 23rd and 24th due to the rainy conditions.

As a result of the intense rainfall, all types of traffic have been halted at Chakki Mod near Parwanoo for safety reasons. The traffic police have provided updates urging diversions via alternate routes to prevent congestion. The monsoon’s impact is expected to persist until August 27th in Himachal Pradesh, after which weather conditions are predicted to return to normal, as stated in reports from officials.

It’s noteworthy that the heavy rains experienced in Himachal Pradesh from August 13th to August 18th triggered landslides in multiple areas, leading to significant damage and loss of life. Additionally, a visibility alert has been issued. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority is continuously monitoring weather-related changes. To aid the public, emergency contact numbers have been made available in the state. Officials have deployed machinery in regions prone to landslides or road closures to manage the situation effectively.

In the meantime, State Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi informed the media on Tuesday that the heavy rainfall this year has resulted in a substantial loss of 10,000 crore rupees due to the destruction of both public and private assets. As a consequence of the damages caused by the rains, the state has faced a financial setback of 10,000 crore rupees thus far. The rain-related incidents have led to the unfortunate loss of 348 lives, with 38 individuals still missing and over 300 people sustaining injuries, revealed Jagat Singh Negi.

Eleven people, including two senior citizens and four women, got stuck in mid-air at Parwanoo Timber Trail in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan Valley on Monday due to a technical glitch in a cable car. Varinder Sharma, SP (Solan), said the rescue operation is underway and two people, including one woman and one man, have been rescued by the staff of the resort. The report states that all those stranded are tourists from Delhi.

According to the reports, the Timber Trail operator’s technical team has been deployed to rescue those stuck, with local police keeping an eye on the situation. Kasauli Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dhanbir Thakur said people are safely being evacuated. He further said that the National Disaster Response Force (team) would reach the scene shortly.

Informing the situation of those stuck in Parwanoo Timber Trail on social media, Jairam Thakur, Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister assured that all tourists will be rescued safely.
