Taking a giant leap in its Space program, the Indian Space Research Organization flawlessly succeeded injecting Chandrayaan -2 into the orbit today, July 22 from Sriharikota with India’s Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle MKIII-MI.

The Chandrayan – 2 landing on September 7 will mark India as the fourth country to succeed in a moon landing. The previous attempt a week ago was called off an hour before launch on account of a technical snag. 

The lunar exploration mission, Chandrayaan-2, nicknamed ‘Baahubali’ is the most complex one attempt by ISRO. It is a blend of three projects, the orbiter followed by the lander and eventually the rover that will be placed on the moon.

The scale of complexity can be comprehended by the fact that a technologically advanced nation, Israel, was unsuccessful in its first attempt at moon landing in April.

This great feat is achieved eleven years after India’s first lunar mission Chandrayaan -1. 

PM Narendra Modi and all the other prominent leaders of the country poured in congratulating notes to the ISRO for its eminent success.

“Special moments that will be etched in the annals of our glorious history! The launch of Chandrayaan2 illustrates the prowess of our scientists and the determination of 130 crore Indians to scale new frontiers of science. Every Indian is immensely proud today!” tweeted the PM. 

 ISRO Chairman K Sivan also said, “I am extremely happy to announce that the GSLV MkIII-M1 rocket has successfully injected Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft into Earth’s orbit. It is the beginning of a historic journey for India towards Moon and to land at a place near the South Pole, to carry out scientific experiments.”

This milestone is termed a ‘Giant leap for womankind’ as space scientists M Vanitha & Ritu Karidhal led the team.
