At least 10 people, including women and children, were injured after a high-rise spinning swing crashed at a crowded fair in Dussehra ground on Sunday. The incident happened in the Phase-8 area of Mohali, Punjab at around 9:15 pm.

Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and rushed the injured to the Phase-6 civil hospital for treatment.

The video of the same is going viral on social media, which shows the swing spinning and gently ascending. It came to a stop at a certain height of around 80 ft high and continued to spin, but instead of descending smoothly, the swing fell with full force, injuring many people, including children. The victims complained of head, neck, abdominal, and back injuries.

As a result of the incident, many people could be seen swinging out of their chairs into the air, which created panic in the fair among people.

The spinning wheel swing was owned by Jaipur-based Mukesh Sharma. DSP City-2 HS Bal said the management has been informed about the incident and they have been called to record the statement. Action will be taken thereafter, said officials.

The police officials stated that people complained about not adequate safety measures and also blamed the officials for reaching late to the spot. They further said the ambulance wasn’t present at the fair, which is negligence on the part of the organizers.

Mohali DC Amit Talwar said the investigation is underway and action will be taken soon. More than 15 people were on the joyride.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Harsimran Singh Bal said, what we have come to know so far is that they had permission to organize the show. However, no one would be spared if there is a mistake committed on their part. Strict action will be taken according to the law.
