In yet another tragic case of student suicide, at least eight students died by suicide in Telangana, while two others made a bid on their lives, since the results of their intermediate school exams (Class 11-12), were declared on Tuesday.

According to reports, five of eight deceased belonged to Telangana capital Hyderabad while the others were residents of from Nizambad, Wanaparthy and Jagtial.

They said the four of the deceased were girls and the two students who attempted suicide, were also females.

The reported suicide bids came from Sangareddy and Wanaparthy areas of Telangana.

In a similar incident, in April, as many as nine Class 11 and Class 12 students reportedly died by suicide in Andhra Pradesh within 48 hours of their exam results being announced.

According to reports at the time, nine students committed suicide within 48 hours, while two more made unsuccessful bids at their lives, since the results of class 11 and 12 were declared by the Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Examination.

Media reports quoting police officials said that 17-year-old B Tarun, a Class 11 student, committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in Srikakulam district.

The deceased, a resident of Dandu Gopalapuram village of Srikakulam district, had failed in most of his subjects and was reportedly depressed after the results came out.

Similarly, another class 11 student, 16-year-old A Akhilasree, died by suicide at her home Trinadhapuram under Malkapuram police station limits in Visakhapatnam district after the results were announced and she had failed in some subjects.

In another incident, an 18-year-old Class 12 student hanged himself to death at his house in Visakhapatnam’s Kancharapalem locality after the results revealed that he had failed in one of the subjects.

In the state’s Chittoor district, two 17-year-old students—a boy and a girl, both studying in Class 11—committed suicide after failing in the exams. While the boy ingested poison and died, the girl ended her life by jumping into a lake and died by drowning, reports said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister and YSR Telangana Party leader YS Sharmila was on Monday detained after she got into a scuffle with the police during a protest against the alleged paper leak scam in the state.

As per reports, Sharmila was marching towards the office of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged paper leak case when she was intercepted by the police who stopped her from visiting the SIT office on Monday afternoon.

Videos doing the rounds on social media shows the cops attempting to stop YS Sharmila’s car near the SIT office. YS Sharmila gets down from the vehicle and starts arguing with a policeman and then starts slapping and pushing him.

The argument turns into a scuffle even as other police personnel try to restrain Sharmila and take her away.

Another video shows Sharma assaulting a woman police officer as the police personnel try to restrain the YSRTP leader and ask her to leave.

Reports said that YS Sharmila was detained after the incident and shifted to a local police station

Widespread protests have been witnessed in Telangana after an alleged paper leak scam came to light on March 12 in which question papers for recruitment exams conducted by Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) were allegedly leaked.

Three recruitment examinations have been cancelled since the alleged leak was uncovered and at least 15 people have been arrested in the case so far.

Last week, SIT which is probing the case told the Telangana High Court that it had arrested 17 accused in since March 13 and efforts are underway to nab another accused from New Zealand.

Opposition parties, both the BJP and the Congress, have cornered the BRS regime over the alleged paper leak and levelled accusations of top-level corruption by the government.

As many as 34 children, reportedly being trafficked from Bihar, were rescued by the Telangana Police at the Kazipet Junction in a joint operation with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), officials said on Thursday.

A senior official who was part of the rescue operation said that people from different states across the country come Hyderabad and Secunderabad in search of small-time jobs and with them some children, most of whom are runaways, looking for the next meal, get lured with promises of employment.

He said the kids end up working menial jobs in small-time industries where they make bangles or disposable products and the wages are below minimal.

The official said the Telangana Police, with the help of informants and sources, were able to identify these kids at the Kazipet Junction and acted quickly to rescue them, adding that the rescued children will be sent back to their hometowns at the Telangana government’s expense.

The official said the children will be handed over to NGOs in Bihar who will ensure the kids are safely sent to their respective homes.

In a related incident, earlier this month, 34 girls among over 400 children were rescued from the New Delhi Railway Station in the national capital in a joint rescue drive by child rights bodies and the Northern Railways.

According to an official statement, the joint rescue drive was organized in association with Northern Railways, SATHI, Salam Baalak Trust and Prayas JAC Society at the New Delhi railway station with the help of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC)-Mayur Vihar, Varun Pathak of the CWC (Bench of Magistrates).

During the drive, 402 children, including 372 boys and 34 girls were rescued from the bustling railway station and handed over to the CWC for protection and care.

As per the statement, the rescued children—which included runaways, child labourers and those reported missing— have been sent to various child care institutions in the city after completing all legal formalities and procedures, adding that Railway Protection Force Police and Government Railway Police were also involved in the rescue drive.

Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar was arrested by the police in connection with an alleged SSC paper leak case, reports said.

According to reports, BJP MP and state unit chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who was earlier detained from his Karimnagar residence, was arrested by the police after the Hindi paper of the state’s SSC (Secondary School Certificate) was reportedly leaked yesterday in Warangal by a BJP worker.

Reports quoting senior police officials said that the Hindi paper was leaked, minutes after the examination commenced and pictures of the question paper were allegedly leaked on social media by the prime accused, Booram Prashanth, a former journalist and a BJP worker.

The police said that Bandi Sanjay has been detained since Prashanth is associated with the saffron party, however, no official statement has been issued yet on his arrest. The MP was taken to a local hospital in Palakurthi for a medical examination and will be produced in Warangal court today.

Protests

The BJP president’s arrest sparked outrage and protests across Telangana as party workers and MLAs staged demonstrations and clashed with the police near the Bommala Ramaram police station in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district where Bandi Sanjay was lodged after his arrest in Karimnagar.

BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao was detained near the police station as he arrived there along with scores of party workers to protest Sanjay’s arrest.

Reports said that Rao was detained as his supporters tried to stop the police vehicle from carrying him away and clashed with the cops as they tried to march towards the police station by breaking through the police cordon..

Paper leak

According to the police, photos of the Hindi question paper were circulated in WhatsApp groups in Warangal district within half an hour of the exam on Tuesday and the leak was reportedly traced to an exam centre at Kamalapur in Hanamkonda district a 16-year-old teen climbed a tree took a picture of the paper from his mobile phone camera and shared it with another man, Shiva Ganesh, who then shared it in a local WhatsApp group.

An India Today report quoted A.V. Ranganath, IPS, CP Warangal as saying that police investigation revealed that three people, identified as Mautam Shiva Ganesh, a driver, BJP worker Booram Prashanth, and a juvenile were detained by the Kamalapur police and booked under Section 5 of the Telangana Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractice and Unfair Means) Act, adding that their mobile phones were also seized.

He said that another accused, G Mahesh, a former reporter presently working as a lab technician at KMC, Warangal, is yet to be arrested.

A family of four, including two minor children, allegedly died of suicide in their Hyderabad apartment on Friday night, police said on Saturday, adding that the family was reportedly distraught over their kids’ ill-health and may have formed a suicide pact.

According to the police, 39-year-old Satish—a software engineer by profession—his wife Vedha and the couple’s two minor children, Nishiketh (9) and Nihal (5), were found dead in their apartment in the Kushaiguda area of Hyderabad city.

They said the incident is suspected to have taken place on Friday night but the police received information on Saturday afternoon and a team was rushed to the scene which took custody of the bodies.

Giving details, an official said the family of four committed suicide by ingesting an unknown poison and preliminary investigations have revealed that the both their children suffered from some sort of mental illness.

The official said the now-deceased kids were under treatment but weren’t showing any signs of relief from their illness and as such the family had become distraught and resorted to taking the extreme step, adding that the family are suspected to have committed suicide on Friday night but the police received information about the incident at around 2 pm on Saturday.

He said that Satish’s brother-in-law Manikanta asked the building’s security guard to check on the family after he failed to reach the couple despite repeated attempts since Saturday morning.

The guard found the family car still parked in the parking area and after receiving no response on ringing the door bell, he managed to peek through a window and found them inside, however the family wasn’t moving and the guard and some neighbours climbed onto another balcony and managed to enter the family’s flat from the back door.

The neighbors and the security found the family lying dead in their apartment, Satish was found leaning against a wall in a sitting posture while Veda and the two children were lying dead in the bed.

The official said that the bodies of the victims have been shifted to the mortuary, adding that an investigation is underway to shed more light onto the incident and a case under section 174 of the CrPC has been registered in this regard.

A shocking story has come to light Telangana’s McDonalds where a huge rat running around inside the McDonalds outlet led to the rodent biting a minor. As per the reports, rat bit an 8-year-old who was eating his meal. The incident reportedly transpired at Hotel SPG Grand premises in Kompally.

It was reported that the father of the child who got bit lodged a complaint against the food outlet.

In the video, a usual state of affairs inside can be seen, however, things take an awry turn as a huge rat can be seen running around inside the premises. The feral rat can be seen going under a table where the child was having his meal and climbing up the childs legs.

The video shows the guardian of the child swiftly jumping in to remove the rat away from the child. The McDonalds staff can also be seen complacently watching as the incident unravels.

As per the reports, the eight-year-old child suffered from rat bites due to the whole scenario with the rat at the McDonalds food outlet. The father of the victim had filled an FIR against the franchise.

The farther in his FIR wrote that franchises like McDonalds are supposed to ensure a safe environment for children and highlighted the lack of it.

After the video went viral, many users came forward to add their take on the incident as one user wrote and slammed the franchise on hygiene by questioning if customers are unsafe at a place where one comes for food, what hygiene they are maintaining for food that we eat.

One user also wrote and said that the poor eight year old boy is traumatised, highlighting the mental toll it might take on the child after being attacked by a rodent.

After a medical student suicide in Hyderabad, another case came to light of an engineering student turning to suicide after her private photos were leaked by her friend on Monday.

As per the reports, the victim befriended an undergraduate student who grew romantic feelings for the woman. Subsequently, after the friendship, the relationship between the two turned sour after which her friend allegedly shared some personal photos with her others.

The victim, after learning about her leaked photos felt humiliated and went turn to suicide. It was reported that the body of the woman was found hanging in her relative’s house on Sunday.

The family of the woman has alleged that the woman was driven to suicide after being harassed by two men. According to reports, out of the two men, one accused man has been taken into police custody.

The news of the suicide of the engineering student comes subsequently after the death of a medical student who died after attempting suicide on Saturday.

As per the reports, the 26-year-old medical student was identified as D Preethi. Reports suggest that the girl was being harassed by her senior in College which drove the woman to take drastic measures.

It was reported that the woman was a medical student at Kakatiya Medical College. The family of the woman has also alleged the college of negligence as the father of the victim had said that he had alarmed the college administration about the harassment his daughter was facing.

The body of the victim was found in an unconscious state in the MGM hospital where she was working in the night shift. Subsequently, after being found, she was rushed to Hyderabad. Four days after being shifted to Hyderabad, her health deteriorated which led to her death.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the father of the victim, the police have taken second-year- post-graduate student Mohammed Ali Saif into custody and have charged him under sections of Abedment to suicide, harassment under Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Anti-Ragging Act.

Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan had also granted ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the victim.

A spine-chilling story has come to light from Telangana’s Nizamabad where a pack of dogs attacked a 5-year-old boy. As per the reports, the boy had accompanied his father, who worked as a security guard, to work where the boy was attacked.

The horrifying incident ensued on Sunday and the visuals of the dog attack were captured on a CCTV video installed inside the premises where the incident unfolded.

According to reports, the boy has been identified as Pardeep and had come to work with his father when he was attacked. The visuals that have been going circulating of the incident, show the child walking alone in the parking area. The boy after crossing paths with a pack of dogs gets attacked by them as they surround him.

The visual also shows the pack of dogs tearing and overpowering the minor boy as the boy struggles to flee and falls to the ground. The feral dogs can be seen biting and tearing apart the clothes of the boy. As the incident unfolds the harrowing visuals also show the boy getting bitten by the dogs all over his body and dragging him to a corner.

Reports said that the boy after suffering from the attack by the dogs died on the spot. It is also reported that no complaint has been filed by the family in the matter.

Another incident of a similar nature came to light from Gujarat’s Surat where a 4-year-old girl was reportedly attacked by four dogs near her residents. The incident unfolded after the victim’s parents, who work as migrant laborers, went to work.

It was reported that the girl had suffered 40-dog-bites on her hands, legs, head, chest, and back. However, the girl was saved by some men who promptly acted after hearing her wailing call for help. The girl was then rushed to the hospital where her condition became stable.

In a bizarre incident, a man from Telangana’s Hyderabad cancelled his wedding after he alleged that he received old furniture in a dowry. A bride’s father has filed a complaint against the groom for not turning up for the wedding.

According to the reports, the bride’s father also alleged that the groom’s father misbehaved with him when he had gone to their house to question them. The groom, identified as 25-year-old Mohammad Zakeer, who works as a bus driver, was supposed to marry 22-year-old Heena Fatima on Sunday.

The bride’s father in a complaint stated that the groom’s family refused to come to the wedding because they said the items which they asked for were not given as dowry and the furniture was also old. He said he requested the groom to come to the wedding as he had invited all relatives and guests to the wedding and also arranged a feast but he refused.

Fatima’s father then went to the police station and filed a complaint against the groom’s family. On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case against Zakeer’s family under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The police official said that the bride’s family waited for a long time but later got to know that the groom’s family had cancelled the wedding. The official said the groom’s family had expected furniture along with other items in the dowry, but when they found out that old furniture was allegedly given by the bride’s family, they called off the wedding.

A similar incident occurred a few months ago in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra when the bride called off the wedding after the groom failed to count the currency notes. The move came after the bride got to know of the groom’s pre-existing mental illness that had been hidden by his family.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao skipped the Republic Day celebrations hosted by the state’s Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Governor Soundararajan hoisted the tricolor which was followed by the national anthem. She the felicitated composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose who won the Golden Globes Award and have been nominated for the Oscars for their song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the globally acclaimed SS Rajamouli’s RRR.

Keeravani was also honored with the prestigious Padma Shri – India’s fourth highest civilian honor — on Wednesday ahead of the 74th Republic Day.

The majestic Republic Day Parade is set to begin at 10:30 am today, President Droupadi Murmu will unfurl the national flag on Kartavya Path in the national capital today to mark the occasion.

The grand parade, will showcase India’s cultural and linguistic diversity and also display the nation’s growing military prowess.  

The parade will commence with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the National War Memorial where he will lead the nation in paying solemn tributes to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath. Thereafter, PM Modi and other dignitaries will head to the saluting dais at Kartavya Path to witness the parade.

As per tradition, the National Anthem will play along with the customary 21-gun salute after the hoisting of the tricolor.

In a first, the 21-gun salute will be given with 105-mm Indian Field Guns replacing the vintage 25 pounder gun, reflecting upon the growing ‘aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defense. Four Mi-17 1V/V5 helicopters of 105 Helicopter Unit will shower flower petals on the audience present at Kartavya Path.
