Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has urged Indian citizens to support para-athletes in the ongoing Paralympics in Tokyo. Late on Monday, Neeraj shared a video on his social media platforms.

Neeraj Chopra urges everyone to support athletes:

He said, “I wanted to say that all Indian athletes are performing their best at the Tokyo Paralympics. Sumit Antil broke the world record and he won a gold, every athlete is giving their best. I think that we are not following the games, please follow the Paralympics. Everyone is representing the country and they are winning medals, please show your support to our athletes.”

Neeraj captioned the video as, “We’ve seen some incredible medal-winning performances by Indian athletes over the past few days in the #Paralympics. I hope we give all our Paralympians as much love and support as possible over the next few days.”

Recently, Neeraj Chopra hit headlines when he shared a video and requested people not to troll his competitor, Pakistan javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem. The gold medallist asked people not to manipulate his words and said, “Sports teaches us to be together and united.”

Indian poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar lauded Neeraj and tweeted, “I wish some people in our country had the class, decency IQ and the sporting spirit of our sportsmen like Neeraj Chopra and Bajrang Punia.”

India’s performance at Tokyo Paralympics 2020:

On Monday, 19-year-old shooter Avani Lekhara bagged gold in R2 women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 category. Avani also created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. Overall, she is the fourth Indian athlete to win a Paralympics gold after swimmer Murlikant Petkar (1972), javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia (2004 and 2016), and high jumper Thangavelu Mariyappan (2016).

Then, veteran javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia grabbed a silver medal in the F-46 game. Discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya also won silver. Sundar Singh Gurjar chipped in with a bronze medal. On the 5th day of the sports event, paddler Bhavina Patel brought home silver for India. Bhavina Ben hails from Sundhiya village in Mehsana district in Gujarat. She is 90 per cent disabled and married to a junior cricketer of Gujarat, Nikunj Patel.

It is raining medals for India in Tokyo Paralympics. After the astonishing gold win of Avani Lekhara in women’s 10m AR standing. Now, Devendra Jhajharia won silver and Sundar Singh Gurjar won bronze in the men’s javelin throw event at the Tokyo Paralympics match that took place on Monday.

India’s Devendra Jhajharia scored a silver for himself by throwing 64.3m long throw and Sundar Singh Gurjar took bronze with a throw of 64.01m. Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Mudiyanselgae won the gold by creating the world record with his 67.79m throw.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the win of Jhajharia and Gurjar. PM Modi said that it was a superb performance by Devendra Jhajharia. He further said that Jhajharia is one of our experienced athletes and he won a silver. PM Modi concluded by saying that Devendra has been making India continuously proud.

PM Modi also congratulated Sundar Singh Gurjar. He said that India is overjoyed by the Bronze medal win by Sundar. PM Modi further said that Gurjar has shown remarkable courage and dedication.


Earlier, Neeraj Singh Chopra scripted history by winning gold in Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj won the gold medal in Men’s javelin throw with his best throw that was 87.58m.

In the Tokyo Paralympics, Avani Leklharia won gold in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event on Monday. She won the gold medal with a total score of 249.6 in the final, and it has managed to equal the world record.

Avani Lekharia is a 19-year-old, and she scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. Avani became the fourth India to win gold in the Paralympics. Earlier, Devendra Jhajharia, Murlikant Petkar, and Thangavelu Mariyappan won the gold in the Paralympics.

India’s paddler Bhavina Patel has assured a medal for India at Tokyo Paralympics 2020. The table tennis player won the final game from 11-8 against China’s Zhang Miao in the Women’s Singles Class 4 semifinal on Saturday.

Bhavina Patel to fight for gold:

Bhavina Patel has entered the finals and will now play for gold. If she wins the match, she will play against the winner of the other semifinal. If she loses the semifinal, Bhavina will bag a bronze medal for India.
