According to the Indian railways, as many as nine long-distance passenger trains are running behind schedule as a result of the fog and poor visibility on Saturday.

Officials said that the Raigarh-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana Express, Raxaul-Anand Vihar Terminal Sadbhavana Express, and Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special are all running more than three and a half hours behind schedule, respectively.

The Ayodhya Cantt-Delhi Express, the Rajgir-New Delhi Sharmjeevi Express, the Manikpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express, and the Jaynagar-Amritsar Clone Special are also 2:30 hours late.

The Pratapgarh-Delhi Padmavat Express is running one hour and 45 minutes behind schedule.

Due to poor visibility on Friday, more than 12 passenger trains in north India were delayed.

IMD issues alert

The plains of North India (North East) saw the maximum winter in January. However, now the cold has reduced a lot. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for avalanches in the higher mountainous areas and rain in the lower plains for today. Fog is still being seen at many places in the morning and evening.

There is not much hope of any change in the weather in the plains for the next ten days. However, light rain may occur at some places. There will be no rapid increase in the minimum temperature. Apart from this, there is a possibility of light to moderate rains in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

Avalanche in hilly areas

In the recent days, the Meteorological Department had issued an alert regarding the avalanche  in the areas of Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi districts of Uttarakhand with a height of 3 thousand meters. It is estimated that an avalanche can occur here anytime due to heavy snowfall. At the same time, continuous snowfall continues in Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir. An alert has also been issued for rain in Himachal today.

Weather conditions in national capital

Talking about the weather of the Delhi, now the winter season has started bidding farewell. The sky is expected to remain clear for the next one week. However, a slight chill will be seen in between due to strong winds. An increase in temperature is also expected in Uttar Pradesh, which is adjacent to Delhi, but due to the fog, people may still have to face some problems.

Passengers coming from Bihar to Delhi and going from Delhi to Bihar are facing a lot of problems due to trains running late due to dense fog. A passenger waiting for his train at New Delhi railway station said that he got had to weight more than 8 hours for his train to arrive.

Even today there is dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, East Rajasthan, North-West Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh. A drop of 1 to 3 degrees has been recorded in the minimum temperature in these states. At the same time, the lowest minimum temperature of -3.7 degree Celsius has been recorded in Fatehpur, Rajasthan. A severe cold wave warning has been issued in Delhi for the next three days.

Residents in the national capital awoke to a chilly morning with a thick layer of fog on Wednesday, after already being hit by a cold wave since the start of the new year.

Many trains and flights were running late on Wednesday much thanks to the fog that had engulfed many states of North India, barring the visibility.

Around 6:10 am, Safdarjung reported a minimum temperature of 5.9 degrees Celsius. The visibility in Palam was 100 metres at 6:10 am, according to the Met department. Dense to very dense fog was seen across areas of Punjab, Northwest Rajasthan, Jammu division, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tripura, as predicted.

The India Meteorological Department said that a dense/very dense fog layer (in the white patch) spans from Punjab to Bihar over Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the national capital’s air quality deteriorated further, with the overall AQI breaking the’severe’ level at 421.

26 trains running late: Northern Railway

On Wednesday, about 26 trains were running late due to thick fog that engulfed various states in North India, impairing vision.

According to Northern Railway officials, the Gorakhpur-Bathinda Gorakhdham Express, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Amritsar Express, the Pratapgarh-Delhi Padmavat Express, and the Dr Ambedkar Nagar-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Malwa Superfast Express were all running up to two hours late.

While the Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special, the Katihar-Amritsar Express, the Visakhapatnam-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express, and the Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana Express were all three hours late.

Darbhanga-New Delhi Clone Special, Gaya-New Delhi MahabodhiExpress, and Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express were all four hours late, according to officials.

The Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, the Azamgarh-Delhi Kaifiyaat Express, the Kamakhya-Delhi Brahmaputra Mail, and the Jaynagar-Amritsar Clone Special were all six hours late.

Darbhanga-New Delhi Bihar Samapark Kranti Express, Rewa -Anand Vihar Terminal Superfast Express, Prayagraj-New Delhi Express, Rajendra Nagar Terminal- New Delhi Sampoorna Kranti Express, Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Ghazipur City-Anand Vihar Terminal Suhaildev Express, Rajgir-New Delhi Sharmjeevi Superfast Express, Hyderbad-Hazrat Nizamuddin Dakshin Express, MGR Chennai Central -New Delhi Grand Trunk Express, and Amritsar-Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Express are late by 1.15, 7, 2.45, 2.30, 10, 6.30, 1.45, 2.30, 3.30, 8.30 hours, respectively.

10 flights delayed

According to authorities, as many as ten aircraft scheduled to depart from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) were delayed due to strong fog on Wednesday.

According to airport sources, flight routes affected by the strong fog included Delhi-Shimla, Delhi-Kathmandu, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Jaisalmer, Delhi-Bareilly, Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Varanasi, Delhi-Srinagar, Delhi-Jaipur, and Delhi-Guwahati.

Road, rail and air traffic has also been affected due to dense fog. Air travellers are also troubled due to severe fog and cold in the national capital. Due to the fog, many trains of Northern Railway region and flights flying from Delhi airport were delayed.

Around 20 flights are running late at Delhi airport due to bad weather. An official said that till 6 am there was no information about any change in the route of the aircraft. Passengers say that the visibility at the airport is very low amid the bitter cold. Whereas, 42 trains are running late in Northern Railway zone due to fog.

Due to low visibility in the national capital, 20 flights are delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport (IGI Delhi Airport) till 6 am on Sunday. Notably, at around 5:30 in the morning the visibility was recorded less than 50 meters. Due to which there is a problem in the operation of flights.

At the same time, 42 trains of Northern Railways are running late from their scheduled time. Plight is such, that many trains including Rajdhani, Sealdah, Duronto Express passing through UP-Bihar, famous for running on time, are running late by 8 to 10 hours. Due to the delay of trains owing to dense fog in the midst of cold wave, passengers are suffering at railway stations. Waiting for the train in bitter cold is proving to be very difficult.

Rajdhani Express (12314) from New Delhi to Sealdah passing through Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction of UP, which is one of the busiest railway stations on the Delhi-Howrah rail route, is running late by 9 hours. At the same time, 12302 Howrah Rajdhani Express going from New Delhi to Howrah is running late by 7 hours.

Similarly, Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express (22824) from New Delhi to Bhubaneshwar running from New Delhi to Bhubaneshwar is running late by 7 hours. 12310-Patna Tejas Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to Patna is running late by 6 hours. The fog has also restricted the speed of Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express.
