Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has got a big blow from the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The SP leader had filed a petition and appealed to the Supreme Court to transfer some of the cases registered against him in UP to other states. Rejecting his demand, the court asked him to approach the High Court and directed that his plea be heard soon.

Azam Khan, who appeared in the court through advocate Kapil Sibal, said, “I will not get justice in the state. I am being persecuted forcefully. It is not the judge, but the state that is doing it. The situation is the same everywhere within a state.”

On this, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice SA Nazir said that more concrete reasons would be needed to transfer the criminal cases against Azam Khan. “When we transfer a case, we have to look at larger considerations. We give you liberty to approach the Allahabad High Court,” the bench said.

Significantly, many criminal cases have been registered against Azam in Uttar Pradesh and recently, after being found guilty in a case, his assembly membership has also been cancelled.
