Just a day ahead of Goa polls, a sting operation aired by a news channel has created a buzz on social media. In the video, it was alleged that Congress and TMC candidates in Goa were involved in horse trading and they were seen discussing the plans to change parties if there is a need after the elections. In the video, they can also be heard talking about the business opportunities, benefits and crores of money.

In the sting operation, the Congress leaders Avertano Furtado, Savio d’Silva, and Sankalp Amonkar and TMC’s Churchill Alemao were seen talking about the horse-trading. Later, the news channel took the video down.

But, the Aam Aadmi Party, who is all set for Goa election was quick enough to share the video on their social media handle and wrote that this is shocking news, the party further wrote that Congress and TMC MLA caught red-handed taking money for defecting to BJP if they win the election.

Congress further rubbished the claims of sting operation and said that the Aam Aadmi Party and BJP were trying to defame them by using a doctored video released during the 48-hour silence period before polling.

In an official statement, Goa Congress said, “A conspiracy has been hatched by BJP-AAP duo to defame the Congress and three of the party’s office-bearers. With malafide intention, through a news channel called ‘Hindi Khabar’, they have released a fake, distorted and doctored video during the 48 hour silent period. This is in violation of The Representation of People’s Act.”

In the statement, the grand-old party further wrote that they are trying to subvert democracy by attempting to interfere with free and fair elections. AICC in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao, Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar and general secretary Sunil Kawthankar met with the chief electoral officer and have apprised him of the same and urged action against the channel and whoever is responsible for the doctored videos.

Later, Congress leaders registered their complaint with the chief electoral officer late at night as the situation developed. The chief electoral officer said the election commission was committed to providing a level-playing field to all. He added that an investigation has been ordered into the issue.

Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said that they have filed a complaint with the election commission against AAP. The AAP is trying to influence the polls by directly attacking their candidates. Both BJP and AAP state chiefs were present on the news show, their involvement is clear.
