[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There are varieties of milk available in the market such as full-fat milk, low-fat milk, no fat milk, skimmed milk, soy milk, almond milk, rice milk, coconut milk etc. Milk has always been a rich source of nutrients and calcium and it is also essential for our daily coffee and tea. Among all almond milk is the most popular plant milk. It contains low-calorie, low-sugar, have high vitamin E and a good source of calcium.

Here are a few health benefits of almond milk.

What is almond milk?

Almond milk can be made at home. It is made by blending almonds, mixing them with water and then filtering the mixture of almonds and water to create a product that looks like milk and has a nutty flavour. It can also be made by adding water to almond butter.

It has a nutty flavour and creamy texture that is similar to dairy milk. For this reason, it is the popular choice for those who are allergic or intolerant to dairy.

Almonds milk comes in a variety of flavours and brands. It is beneficial to choose almond milk that does not contain added sugar.

Low in calories

Almond milk is much lower in calories as compared to cow milk.  One glass of full-fat milk contains 40-150 calories; unsweetened almond milk contains about 30-50 calories. This is great for people who want to lose weight and cut calories.

Controlling your calories intake is the best way to lose weight, especially in combination with exercise.  It means you can drink a lot of milk without worrying about weight gain.

However, not all almond milk is in low calories. Some of it such as homemade and many branded almond milk might contain a much higher number of calories, depending on how many almonds they contain in one cup.

Low in sugar

Sugar-free almond milk is a low-carb beverage, containing only 0.6% carbs (1.5 grams) per cup. As compared to almond milk low-fat cow’s milk contains 5% carbs, totalling 12 grams per cup.

Almond milk is also high in fat and protein as compared to its carb content. For this reason, it doesn’t cause a spike in blood sugar levels, making it suitable for diabetics, as well as those who are on a low-carb diet.

High in vitamin E

Almonds are high in vitamin E providing 37% of the daily vitamin E requirement in just 1 ounce (28 grams).

Almonds are the natural source of vitamin E, though most commercial varieties also add extra vitamin E during processing.

One cup of almond milk provides 20–50% of daily vitamin E requirement, depending on the brand. In comparison, dairy milk contains no vitamin E at all.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that combats inflammation and stress in the body.

A Good Source of calcium

Milk and other dairy products are rich sources of calcium. In contrast, almonds are the poor source.

To make almond milk more similar to real milk, producers often enrich it with calcium. One cup of commercial almond milk may contain up to 45-50% of the RDI.

As compared to commercial almond milk, the calcium content in one cup of cow’s milk may range from 28-31% of the RDI.

Hence, enriched almond milk is a high source of calcium for people who don’t consume dairy milk.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
