A sad news has come to the fore from the Odia film industry. Veteran actress Jharana Das took her last breaths on Friday at her Chandni Road residence in Cuttack late. She is best remembered for her work in films like Shree Jagannath, Nari, Malajanha, Adinamegha, Hisabnikas, Amadabata, Pujafula, Abhinetri and Heera Nella.

For the unversed, late actor Jharana Das was awarded with state government’s prestigious Jaydev Puraskar for her lifetime contribution to Odia film industry. Reportedly she was suffering from old age-related aliment for a long time. And her fight for life ended this morning at her Odisha residence.

Indian President Draupadi Murmu also expressed grief over the demise of Jharna Das. President took to her Twitter handle and wrote that she is saddened to know about the demise of legendary Odia actor Jharana Das. Draupadi Murmu further wrote that Das will always be remembered for her outstanding contribution to Odia film industry and gave her deepest condolences to the family and Jharana Das’s admirers.

For the unversed, the legendary actor started working as a child artist and announcer with the All India Radio (AIR), Cuttack. Das had also worked as an assistant station director of Doordarshan in Odisha. Her best creation is the biographical documentary on former Odisha chief minister Harekrushna Mahtab.
