Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is in news for quite some time now. A day after Akshay Kumar stepped back from the Vimal Pan Masala advertisement facing massive backlash for endorsing a tobacco brand, an old photo of the actor promoting a cigarette brand is ruling the Internet.

Laxxmi Bomb actor shared an apology note on Thursday on Instagram which read I am sorry. I would like to apologize to you, all my fans, and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause, he concluded.

It didn’t take time for people to dig up the old advertisement of the actor promoting the Red and White cigarette. People blamed Akshay Kumar for lying in his apology note. On one side the actor writes in his apology note that he hasn’t promoted any such brand and on the other hand his old photo endorsing cigarettes goes viral. One user commented, since it is an honest clarification, I’d wish there was honesty in the statement Akki sir.

Another user said, whenever I go to movies and see the ad of Akshay Kumar is doing that Padman and asking to buy sanitary pads instead of cigarettes, I just remember this ad from my childhood. Sacchi Red and White peene waalo ki baat hi kuch aur hai, he concluded.

It all started a few days ago when Akshay Kumar became the brand ambassador of the Vimal Pan Masala brand alongside Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan. However, after receiving massive criticism on social media, the actor announced his discontinuation with the brand.

After receiving backlash on social media over the Vimal ad, Akshay Kumar on Thursday released an apology letter to his fans and decided to step back from the advertisement. The pan masala brand, which is being endorsed by Ajay Devgn for several years now has triggered a debate on the internet. The bandwagon was joined by Shah Rukh Khan last year and fans have been slamming the Bollywood A-listers over the same.

Amid the controversy, how could Kamaal R Khan, the self-acclaimed film critic, stay away from commenting on the debate. On Thursday, KRK slammed Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan, and Akshay Kumar for their decision to promote Vimal and called it shameful.

In a tweet, KRK shared the pictures of the superstars receiving Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, from the Presidents and wrote that 3 Padma Shri awardees of India are selling pan masala which is nothing but shameful.

If you are a regular Twitter user, you might have come across the Vimal ad debate ever since Akshay Kumar joined Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan to endorse the brand. Social media is slamming the Bollywood stars for promoting such a brand that is not health-friendly.

Last week, Vimal announced that Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar has joined the brand and will be the third star to say Bolo Zubaan Kesari. Following the backlash on social media, the actor decided to withdraw from the advertisement and apologised to his fans for letting them down.

In a letter, Akshay wrote that his fan’s reactions over the past few days have deeply affected him and he respects the outpouring of their feeling in light of his association with Vimal Elaichi. He further wrote that he had decided to step back and contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar took to social media to apologies to his fans for appearing in Vimal ad. And seems like the Ajay Devgan also felt the need to clarify his stand on this matter. In a recent media interaction while promoting his upcoming film ‘Runway 34,’ the actor said that he was just promoting elaichi and has no intention in promoting tobacco.

One of the Vimal ambassador, Ajay Devgan has something new to say on this matter. The Runway 34 actor said that associating with Vimal was a personal decision. Ajay further said, “When you take up something, you also see how harmful it can be. Somethings are harmful but some are not. And I would say it without naming it because I don’t intend to promote it. As a brand ambassador, I was doing Elaichi ad. But what I do feel is more questionable than advertisements is that if certain things are so wrong in promoting then why are they being sold.”

Recently Khilaadi Kumar joined Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgan in being the brand ambassador of Vimal Elaichi and appeared in the TV ads. Soon after the ads were aired, Akshay Kumar has to face a lot of criticism and flakes from fans as the actor promotes healthy living and fitness. And today the actor posted an apology message on social media and has cut down all his association from Vimal.

Akshay Kumar wrote, “I am sorry and I would like to apologies to all my fans and well-wishers. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. I respect the outpouring of your feelings due to my association with Vimal Elaichi. And with all humility, I step back.”

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan has been associated with Vimal for several years now. Later, Shah Rukh joined as the brand ambassador last year and then the two appeared in an ad together. Last week, a new ad came up with the two teasing Akshay’s entry. And lastly, a follow-up ad, featuring Akshay Kumar was aired few days later.
