In a painful incident that has come to the fore in Gorakhpur, a 3-year-old girl died after drowning in the water that had accumulated in the school ground of convent school. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.

Late in the evening, the father of the deceased girl lodged a complaint with the police accusing the school management of negligence. The police are investigating the matter.

It was the girl’s first day at school

Jagdish Narayan Shukla, a resident of Kazakpur in Ramgarhtal area of Gorakhpur district, told the police that he had gone to Apex School for admission of his 3-year-old daughter Drishti at around 8 am on Wednesday. At the behest of the manager and the employees, he left the girl in the school and went to his office. After he left, his wife received a call from the school and was told that the girl had suffered an injury in school, reports say.

The school management told the family that the girl had been admitted to a private hospital. On hearing this, the family members got upset and reached the hospital as informed by the school, but there was no information of the girl getting admitted to the hospital.

School manager reaches home with girl’s body

After this, when Jagdish started asking the school management about the girl, at first they kept evasive, but after some time the school manager himself reached home with the body of the girl. The manager told the family members that there was water in the school ground, in which the girl died by drowning.

Azad Nagar Outpost Incharge Purushottam Anand Singh said that a complaint has been received, the matter is being investigated. Action will be taken based on the inquiry.

The negligence posed by school management has given sleepless nights to many parents who send their kids to school trusting the school’s management.
