Bazball could be the most used term in the last one month but the inspiration behind it, England Test coach Brendon McCullum has now referred to it as silly term. His statement comes days after England defeated India in a historical run chase in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston.

Senior Australia batter Steve Smith called England’s counter-attacking approach exciting but is not sure about its sustainability, especially till the Ashes in England next summer. Whether it is going to be the same when the likes of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are running into bowl, he had said last week.

Reacting to Smith’s comments, England Test coach Brendon McCullum said a lot of thought has gone into England’s fresh approach towards the five-day game and acknowledged the Australian challenge in 2023. He saw those (Bazball comments) flick up on one of the feeds somewhere, McCullum told Adam Gilchrist on SEN WA Breakfast show.

He believes that both New Zealand and India are two very, very good cricket sides as well. Australia is a different kind of challenge because of the history of the Ashes and the rivalry which exists there, a former New Zealand skipper said.

Bazball, which is derived from McCullum’s nickname Baz, has been associated with England’s new philosophy of playing an aggressive brand of Test cricket since the arrival of the new head coach and new skipper. However, It points to the aggressive and entertaining brand of cricket that England is now playing in Test matches under their new coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

The term came into discussion during England’s home series against New Zealand in which the host has clean swept the Kiwis by 3-0. However, the term was remained in discussion during India vs England 5th Test match at Edgbaston and still in discussion on social media.

England, who endured a dismal run over the last 18 months, looks completely transformed outfit with a 3-0 series win over New Zealand and a record chase in the rescheduled fifth Test against India.

England has successfully chased their highest-ever target of 378 runs in the 5th Test against India at Edgbaston on Tuesday and much credit has been given to the team’s new philosophy BazBall, a term derived from England’s head coach Brendon McCullum’s nickname Baz.

The newly-introduced term Bazball came into discussion during India vs England 5th Test match at Edgbaston and remained in discussion on social media. It points to the aggressive and entertaining brand of cricket that England is now playing in Test matches under their new coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

Former New Zealand captain and England’s new coach Brendon Mccullum had played the aggressive and attacking brand of cricket in his time.

Ben Stokes had captained England in home tours against New Zealand and India. After 3-0 clean sweep against New Zealand, the Ben Stokes-led side had levelled the series by 2-2 against India.

However, it is too early to comment on the Bazball philosophy, as the cricket is also a game of failures. It will be unfair for British Media to call them the brand ambassador of attacking and aggressive Test cricket without watching them on away tours. The upcoming away tours will be the team’s Litmus Test to justify their new given by the new coach.

It will be interesting to see that England’s new Bazball philosophy will work outside England.

England’s worst show was recorded against its arch-rivals Australia in Ashes where England was clean swept the series by 4-0. The new era of England under a new captain and coach was started against World Test Championship (WTC) winners New Zealand at home last month.

England was completely in a new avtaar and played a fearless, bold style of cricket from the word get-go. The side successfully chased down targets in all three Test matches against the Kiwis and recorded a dominating 3-0 series win.
