Often people confuse World Hindi Day or Vishwa Hindi Diwas with the National Hindi Day or Hindi Diwas. Both the occasions respect and honour the Hindi language with an aim to make Hindi a part of public opinion, although it doesn’t necessarily mean that one has to leave their mother tongue.

However, the dates are different as World Hindi Day is observed on January 10, the day is especially observed by Indian embassies abroad to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world. While the National Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14.

On both occasion, the schools and colleges across the country encourage students to participate in various literary and cultural programmes like poems competitions, essays, and letter writing completion in the language.

World Hindi Day or Vishwa Hindi Diwas is observed on January 10 to commemorate the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur on January 10, 1975. The aim of the conference was to promote Hindi worldwide. World Hindi Day was first celebrated in 2006 by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh with an aim to promote Hindi across the world.
