The Varanasi District and Sessions Court today said that it would hear the Hindu’s side plea on worship in the Gyanvapi mosque complex case, located next to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The next hearing on this matter would be from September 22.

The court rejected the claim of the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee that the mosque was a Waqf property and questioned the maintainability of the plea in the court.

However, the court said that the plea filed by the Hindu women was maintainable in the court.

A prohibitory order was issued in the Varanasi Commissionerate and more than 250 policemen were deployed outside the Varanasi court complex. A bomb disposal squad was also patrolling the area and the monitoring was also being done through the dog squad.

A police official said that the entire city was divided into sectors and the police forces were allocated as per the requirement.

The petitions were filed by five Hindu women and others seeking the right to worship the Hindu deities whose idols were said to be located on the outer wall of the Gyanvapi mosque.

The Varanasi court ordered a survey of the mosque complex and the report was submitted on May 19. An alleged Shivling was found during the survey.

A member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board said that a legal expert team would look into the matter and then further line of action would be taken. Whatever Supreme Court said regarding the Place of Worship in the Babri Masjid case they were hopeful that all issues related to temples and mosques would be resolved.

A petitioner, Sohan Lal Arya, said that it was a win for the Hindu community. It was a foundation stone for the Gyanvapi temple. He also made an appeal to the people to maintain peace.
