The fusion band Shakti, featuring Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain, won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album on Monday. The award was given for their most recent album, This Moment. The grand event took place in Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Grammy’s official social media handle shared photos from the event in which Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, can be seen on stage receiving the award. Sharing the image they captioned, Happy to announce This Moment Shakti as the winner of the Best Global Music Album. #GRAMMYs,” the Grammy said.

Shankar Mahadevan praised his wife for his unwavering support in a touching thank-you speech. He also thanked God, family friends and India for supporting him. India, you have our admiration, he added. The singer-composer dedicated this award to his wife and said he owes every note of his music to her.

The album, This Moment has eight songs which are co-written by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

Meanwhile, the formal announcement for the prestigious Grammy Awards 2024 was made a while back, on February 5. Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia won the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance for their collaboration on Pashto.

The incredible massive triumph is made even more amazing by the fact that Rakesh Chaurasia took home two Grammys and the Tabla master became the first Indian musician to win three in a single night.

In addition, renowned music composer Ricky Kej celebrated Hussain and Chaurasia’s win on his X, showing his support for the momentous occasion.

Artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido were among others vying with Shakti for the coveted title.

Welcome To The Jungle, the third installment in the Welcome franchise, is one of Bollywood’s most-awaited films of the recent years. Fans were ecstatic when the film was first revealed in September of this year and featured a humorous promo.

Today taking to Instagram Akshay Kumar surprised everyone by posting a behing the scenes video (BTS) before the Mumbai film shoot began.

In the hilarious BTS video, actor Lara Dutta can be seen carrying a hunter in her hand and gesturing for Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar to go as Krushna Abhishek and Tusshar Kapoor stand aside. In a rather funny sequence of events, Akshay trips and falls from a height. Disha Patani and other actors, on the other hand, are seen climbing the ladder to reach the height.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Akshay Kumar wrote, absolute madness of masti begins as they start the shoot of Welcome To The Jungle. He further added they need your (audiance) well wishes for this wild and exciting rollercoaster. #Welcome3

Lara Dutta, who costarred with Akshay, responded to the post he uploaded and taking to the comment section she said, Lets’ Go! and added a flexed biceps emoji.

Legendary Santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passed away on May 10 due to a cardiac arrest. The musician’s demise was an end of an era in the music industry.

He was cremated with full state honours in the presence of his family and close friends on Wednesday, May 11. Several renowned celebrities including Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain paid him his last respects which has grabbed attention on social media.

A picture of the same is doing rounds on the internet wherein Hussain can be seen standing next to the funeral pyre of the musician. In another picture, Zakir Hussain can be seen shouldering the dead body of Pt Shivkumar Sharma wrapped in tricolour.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passed away at the age of 84. Reports said that he was suffering from kidney ailments for the past six months and was on dialysis. Sharma has been credited to give a classical status to the santoor and making it as popular as other traditional instruments like the sitar and sarod.

Zakir Hussain and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma have created magic together on several stage shows across the world. Soon after the musician passed away, videos of their concerts went viral on social media. While Shivkumar Sharma gave Santoor worldwide recognition, Zakir Hussain is one of the finest Tabla players in the world.

Born on January 13, 1938, in Jammu and Kashmir, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma started playing Santoor at the age of 13. He also collaborated with Indian flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia under the name Shiv-Hari. The duo composed music for blockbuster hit films like Silsila, Faasle, Lamhe, Chandni, and Darr.

In 1991, the legendary musician was honoured with India’s fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri and India’s third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan in 2001.
