Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a> has said that everyone in the country will be vaccinated as soon as coronavirus vaccine is approved and available in the market. He added that the initial focus might be on the most vulnerable groups and frontline workers, but no one will be left behind. He said that a National Expert Group has been formed for administration of the vaccine and charting the way forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with The Economic Times, PM Modi<\/a> said 28,000 clold chain points will be in place for storage and distribution of the vaccine. Teams will be formed at local, district & state level to oversee the distribution of the vaccine in a systematic manner. He added that a digital platform is also being prepared to enroll, track and reach the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giving out his assessment of how the country has fared in its fight with coronavirus, the PM said his assessment is based on numbers. He said it was important to assess country\u2019s fight against Covid against the metric of how many lives were saved. He added that there is no room for complacency and people must continue taking all precautions till the time vaccine becomes available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking about the impact of the lockdowns on state of economy, the prime minister said the priority of the government at that stage was on saving iives. He said it was terrible to see scores of people dying in other countries and it was important to avoid such situation in our country. He said due to the efforts made by government during the pandemic, the economy was getting back on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking about the GST system due to which the states and the Centre were locked in a bitter battle, the PM said that he conducted video conferences with chief ministers multiple times and a consensus was being reached in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to criticism that measures taken by the government for prevention of Covid did not yield the desired results and impacted the economy badly, the PM said that those critics were comparing numbers of India with countries that have population similar to our states.
