The National Green Tribunal on Monday issued a notice to the Ministry of Environment and Forests and four state governments on whether the use of fire crackers be banned from November 7 to 30 in the interest of public health and environment. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice A K Goel asked to respond from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, Police Commissioner of Delhi, Central Pollution Control Board and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recognizing the importance of the issue and its effects on human respiratory system in view of coronavirus pendemic, NGT appointed senior advocate Raj Panjwani and advocate Shibhani Ghosh to take forward the issue. The tribunal was hearing a plea file by Santosh Gupta of Indian Social Responsibility Network. Gupta in his plea sought an action against pollution from fire crackers in Delhi NCR during the time air quality is unsatisfactory with potential of severity of Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the doctors and environmentalists had already warned the people that the toxic combination of high levels of air pollution and Covid-19 pandemic could have severe consequences. As per the data from World Health Organization\u2019s, the exposure to air pollution represents 7 million premature deaths every year. However, Covid-19 is respiratory decease and the exposure to toxic air increases the risk of diseases of respiratory system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
