Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other party members walked out of a Parliamentary Committee meeting on Defence, alleging the panel\u2019s time was being wasted in discussing armed forces\u2019 uniform instead of the crucial issue of national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The confrontation took place when former Lt. General Devender Paul Vats, a BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana, raised the issue of changing the uniform of all the armed forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports said Rahul Gandhi wanted to raise the issues related to China’s aggression in Ladakh and to provide better equipment to soldiers before the committee, but the chairman of the committee, Jual Oram of the BJP, did not allow him to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a leader present in the meeting, the issue of uniforms of the Army, Navy and Air Force was being discussed in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat. Rahul Gandhi said they should discuss how to strengthen forces who are fighting the Chinese in Ladakh instead of discussing their uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rahul Gandhi has been vocal in his criticism of the Narendra Modi government over the alleged mishandling of the months-long India-China border standoff, during which India lost 20 soldiers in Galwan Valley clash on June 15-16. He had also alleged that China has taken control of Indian territory in Ladakh but the Modi government has chosen to close its eyes to the development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
