France President Emmanuel Macron tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. The 42-year-old took the test on the onset of first symptoms. He will now isolate himself for seven days, a statement from the Elysee Palace said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president is still in charge of running the country, and will continue to work and carry out its activities remotely, an official said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of Macron’s upcoming trips, his visit to Lebanon in December included have been cancelled, a presidential spokeswoman confirmed. The statement, however, did not mention President’s wife Brigette whether or not she has also contracted the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister Jean Castex has also self-isolated himself as he was considered a possible contact with Macron. He was supposed to introduce the government\u2019s Covid vaccination policy in the Senate on Thursday, which will now be done by Health Minister Oliver Veran, the officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officials are still-in process to inform those who came in contact with Macron as it is not yet known how he contracted the coronavirus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Macron is among the several world leaders who tested positive for the coronavirus. Earlier, Us President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson caught the infectious disease and ended up in the hospital for treatment during the first wave in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, France had eased the national lockdown restrictions to battle the secondwave of pandemic earlier this week. But due to the soaring cases, an overnight curfew is being imposed daily from 8pm till 6am. In the new measure, the restaurants, theatres, cafes and cinemas remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the data from Johns Hopkins University, the country has recorded over two million confirmed cases with more than 59,400 fatalities ever since the pandemic began. On Wednesday, France registered over 17,700 new covid cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
