The Centre has suggested a series of restrictions to avoid super spreader events and places where crowds may gather for new year celebrations in the backdrop of Covid-19 and the new strain that has reached India with people returning from the United States. The new mutant coronavirus strain is considered to be 70 percent more infectious which was first identified in the United Kingdom. The Centre has asked states to impose restrictions on December 30, 31 and January 1. However, the final decision has been left to states. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the letter to states, an official wrote that the number of Covid-19 active cases is declining steadily in the country for the last three-and-half months. But there is still a need for following strict guidelines and surveillance within our country to prevent the fresh surge of Covid 19 cases as the new virus strain has been detected in the United Kingdom. In the wake of New Year, strict vigil is required to be maintained to curb all potential super spreader events and places where crowds may gather, the letter read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The letter, however, said there shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 20 cases of mutant coronavirus strain have been detected in India after new strain surfaced in UK. However, doctors have said there\u2019s no reason to believe that the new strain cannot be controlled by a vaccine. Around 33,000 passengers arrived from the UK between November 25 and December 23. Of them, 114 have tested positive for Covid-19. The government said genome sequencing for other specimens is on. After the detection of the new strain in the UK, India imposed travel ban on UK on December 21 that will stay in place till December 31.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
