Senior Congress leader and four-time Gujarat Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki died on Saturday morning at his Gandhinagar residence. He was 93 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solanki was the longest-serving chief minister of Gujarat before Narendra Modi. He also served as the external affairs minister in former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao\u2019s Cabinet. Solanki is also credited with forming a social coalition of Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi and Muslim communities in Gujarat, called KHAM, in the 1980s<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Congress leaders paid tributes to Solanki on his demise. PM Modi tweeted that Madhavsinh Solanki was a formidable leader playing a key role in Gujarat politics for decades. He will be remembered for his rich service to society. Saddened by his demise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over Solanki\u2019s death. he twetted that Solanki will be remembered for his contribution in strengthening the Congress ideology and promoting social justice. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda also tweeted that Solanki made his space in the hearts of the people with his work and nature. He said the news of the death of former Gujarat chief minister, the country\u2019s former foreign minister and veteran Congress leader Madhavsinh Solanki is saddening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
