Bollywood actor and Mathura MP, Hema Malini on Wednesday said thousands of farmers protesting against the farm legislations themselves don’t know what they want or what was wrong with the new laws. She also welcomed the Supreme Court’s order of suspending the implementation of the new agriculture laws as this will help in calming down the tempers of agitated farmers.

It is good that the Supreme Court has stayed the laws. This will hopefully calm the situation. Farmers are not willing to come to a consensus even after so many talks. They do not even know what they want and what is the problem with the farm laws. This means that they are doing this because someone asked them to do it, Hema Malini was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended the implementation of the Centre’s three farm laws and appointed a four-member committee to resolve the deadlock between the government and the protesting farmers. The committee will include Bhupinder Singh Mann of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Dr Pramod Kumar Joshi, Anil Ghanwat of Shetkari Sanghatana, and agricultural economist Ashok Gulati. The Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Bobde, Justice A.S. Bopanna and Justice V. Ramasubramanian said they are concerned with laws. The top court in its order said the appointed committee should file the report within two months and the first sitting will be held within 10 days.

The BJP leader, however, criticised the vandalisation of mobile phone towers in Punjab by some angry protesters. She said it was not nice to see cellular towers being vandalised in Punjab. The government has repeatedly called the protesting farmers for talks but they don’t even have an agenda, she added.

On the other hand, her husband Dharmendra Deol has always shown his support to the protesting farmers. In a tweet on December 11, 2020, he had expressed his pain towards farmers’ sufferings.
