US lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has revealed that she is a victim of sexual assault. Cortez said that she feared for her life when Trump supporters stormed into Capitol Hill and unleashed violence. During an Instagram live, Cortez said she was a victim of sexual harassment and that she has not told many people about it. She said as a survivor, she struggles with the idea of being believed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democratic representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez drew parallel of the situation she faced at that point to the one created by violence in the Capitol Hill. She revealed that she hid behind the bathroom door in her office when the violence took place on January 20. Cortez said she eventually evacuated with another staffer and got into a colleague\u2019s cabin and hid there for several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Targeting the Republicans who have asked the people to move on, she said she was feeling emotional as those who tell us to move on and say it is not a big deal and that we should forget what has happened, or even tell us to apologise use the same tactics as abusers. She said it is not an issue of political opinion but of basic humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking a dig at former US President Donald Trump, AOC revealed that we are not safe with people who hold positions of power and are willing to endanger lives if people in a bid to score a political point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An angry mob of Trump supporters had entered the Capitol Hill and unleashed deadly violence last month before the US Congress was to certify Joe Biden\u2019s victory in the US elections. The breach is being considered as one of the worst in history and is being probed. The violence was condemned by Trump accused of inciting it by alleging fraud in the election.
