The commission has told the DGP to appear before it on April 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawyer Aditya Mishra had lodged a complaint at NHRC in 2018 immediately after Pragya Singh Thakur alleged in a TV interview that she was tortured by the Anti-Terrorism Squad of the state police. Later, the NHRC transferred the petition to MHRC for further proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, MHRC has summoned the DGP of Maharashtra. The plea said that the commission should take notice of Thakur\u2019s allegations as this is a matter of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution which protects the right to life and personal liberty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, had earlier sought an exemption from daily appearance in court on the grounds of health and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Also Read<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/bjp-allies-wont-form-govt-in-puducherry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BJP, allies won\u2019t form govt in Puducherry<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Six people were killed and over 100 others injured when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle went off near a mosque in Malegaon in north Maharashtra on September 29, 2008.The trial in the case is going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thakur had joined the BJP in April 2019 and became the BJP MP after defeating senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh from the Bhopal seat. Talking to the media after her victory Thakur termed it as a victory of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (impiety).
