Amid the massive surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, at least 229 students and 4 teachers living in a hostel of school in Washim district have been reported to be tested positive for the coronavirus cases in the state. The school premises have been declared a containment zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school had announced that it will reopen on January 27, following which students from various districts returned to the hostel by February 14. In view of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, the school authorities tested the students and initially found 30 students infected.Later, all the 327 students were tested, of which 229 were found positive for the coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the students who have contracted the disease, mostly are from Amravati and Yavatmal, two worst-hit districts of Maharashtra which has in recent weeks contributed to an upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the state. A total of 151 students belong to Amravati, 55 are from Yavatmal and the rest from Washim, Hingoli, Buldhan and Akola. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the district Washim came in limelight over a large gathering near a temple on Tuesday in violation of Covid-19 restrictions. The slew of Shiv Sena supporters gathered near the temple as Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Rathod visited the shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because of the rising coronavirus cases, religious, social and political gatherings have been banned in the state. An action against those who defied the rules have been ordered by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery, who is also the Shiv Sena president, said that rules were same for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Wednesday witnessed a significant jump in coronavirus cases, with more than 8,000 new infections reported in a single day after a gap of over four months, health officials said. With 80 deaths reported yesterday, the total fatality counts jumped to 51, 937, the government added. The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is at 21,21,119.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
