Amid intensive vaccination drive, India recorded its highest daily count of 22,854 Covid-19 cases-a two month high-in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 1,12,85,561, according to the Union Health Ministry on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last time such a spike in daily cases was witnessed on December 25, when it registered 23,067 infections in a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With 126 deaths in a day, the total fatalities mounted to 1,58,189, while the total active cases have increased to 1,89,226. The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,09,38,146 with a recovery rate of 96.92%, while the fatality rate stands at 1.40%, the data stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was on December 19 that India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the one-crore mark. According to the government data, the worst hit states that contributed to the surge in Covid-19 cases are Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Gujarat, Karnataka among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maharashtra is placed at the top in list of the worst hit states. The state has been under scrutiny with several districts imposing partial lockdowns or night curfews in the wake of the Covid-19 surge.Out of 126 new deaths reported, 54 are from Maharashtra, 17 from Punjab and 14 from Kerala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
