The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked BJP MP from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir if he had a valid licence to stock medicines, especially those that fight against Covid-19. The court asked this after the MP put out tweets asking people to collect medicines from a camp on Pusa Road.

The question was raised by the Delhi High Court day after when Gambhir on Tuesday tweeted to distribute Fabiflu (a medicine for Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms) for free in East Delhi.

After the report, the court thought the distribution of medicines will stop but it is still continuing, the court said.

The division bench of Justices Rekha Palli and Vipin Sanghi said how is it possible for anyone to procure Covid-19 medicines in such large quantity without valid medical licence.

Advocate Rakesh Malhotra had told the court that the East Delhi MP was distributing Fabiflu as mentioned in his tweets. Malhotra said even though Gambhir is doing a great job by proving medical help to Delhi residents, it is still an issue because patients in other areas with serious Covid complications are facing a shortage of such medicines but East Delhi is getting it, the issue needs to be addressed, Malhotra added.

According to health ministry data on Tuesday, Delhi witnessed 24,149 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, registering a spike of 3,948 cases compared to the 20,201 cases reported on Monday.

The death toll reached 15,009 since the pandemic has begun. According to the Delhi government, this is the 6th day in a row that the city has witnessed over 300 Covid deaths.
