Gandhi said the system hasn\u2019t failed but Modi government has been unable to constructively channelise India\u2019s many strengths and resources. It has failed the people of India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP),  Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the collective measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection in the country. The meeting was attended by Congress&#8217;s Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country touched a new record high on Friday by recording over 4.14 lakh fresh Covid-19 infections and over 3,900 deaths in a single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Congress President said India is in the grip of a deadly health disaster. Thousands have died and millions are scrambling to access basic healthcare, life-saving medicines, oxygen, and vaccines. It is heartbreaking to see people battling for their lives in hospitals, on roads or waiting in vehicles, she said in an official statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I say this categorically &#8211; India is crippled by a political leadership today that has no empathy for the people. Instead, the BJP consciously chose to allocate thousands of crores for non-essential projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court issued a sharp reminder to the Centre on the supply of oxygen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gandhi accused a few BJP governments of using state&#8217;s repressive power to crackdown on people merely crying out for help and on the citizens who are trying to help. They are also compelling social media platforms  and media to obfuscate the truth and ignore the pleas of desperate citizens, Gandhi said in the statement.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gandhi went on to say Parliament had allocated 35,000 crores in the union budget to ensure free vaccines for all. Yet the Modi government has placed the burden on already stretched state governments. It has allowed differential pricing for vaccines, Sonia Gandhi said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Congress president appealed to the party leaders step up relief and support services.
