Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has assured protection to licensed slaughterhouses and meat outlets and instructed his officials not to act with bias against people of any faith. This was announced jointly by Siddharth Nath Singh, the UP health minister, and Sirajuddin Qureshi, president of the All India Jamiatul Quresh, in Lucknow on Thursday.<\/p>\n

APN<\/em> carried a special show on Friday depicting various aspects of the issue, including irresponsible behaviour by government agencies in renewing licences of slaughterhouses and meat shops. Reports contributed by the channel\u2019s reporters from Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, Unnao and Moradabad were included in the show.<\/p>\n

$\"APN$ <\/a>Viewers were informed about the large number of illegal slaughterhouses which were set up during previous regimes. The corrupt practices of government officials and meat traders were also highlighted.<\/p>\n

Many of those who lost their businesses and employment were shocked by the government\u2019s move. Bytes from those affected and relevant officials were included in the show. Some of the victims alleged that the BJP government was elected with the promise of creating more jobs, instead it has been causing joblessness in the state. Some complained that meat traders will be forced to commit suicide, like farmers.<\/p>\n

In one of the segments, the special show talked about rampant coordinated corruption with the involvement of politicians and bureaucrats under previous governments. It revealed that the number of animals slaughtered was much higher than registered in documents.
