The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on Friday announced that the United Kingdom approved the emergency use of a single-shot of Covid vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson. In a statement the Department of Health and Social Care said the country’s drug regulator gave the green signal for the Covid vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said this is a further boost to the UK’s hugely successful vaccination programme, which has already saved over 13,000 lives. With this, the Britain have four safe and effective vaccines approved to protect people from this awful virus, the health secretary said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vaccine, developed by Johnson & Johnson has been shown to be 67% effective overall at preventing moderate to severe Covid-19, with studies suggesting it also offers complete protection from admission to hospital and death. As per the US trial, the vaccine was found to be 72% effective in preventing moderate to severe coronavirus infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government hopes that the single-dose jab will play an important role in the months to come as the young people come forward for their vaccinations amid concern over the rise of the so-called Indian variant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Britain has ordered 20 million doses of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The European Medicines Agency said in April that a warning about unusual blood clots with low blood platelet count should be added to its product information following cases in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Britain has administered more than 62 million shots so far, mainly using the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines. It has also approved the use of the Moderna vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
