Fuel prices in India were hiked for the second consecutive day across the country on Sunday. This is the 31st hike in prices since May 4, when Oil Marketing Companies had ended an 18-day hiatus in rate revision observed during the assembly elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fuel prices have been hiked 15th times this month. The petrol and diesel prices were also hiked on Saturday to take petrol above the Rs 100-mark in a total of seven state capitals. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 35 paise per litre each on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With new prices coming into effect on Saturday, the fuels prices have touched all-time highs across the country as the petrol has already crossed Rs 100 mark in 11 states and union territories- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Ladakh, Bihar and Kerala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the fresh hike on Sunday, the petrol prices were hiked by 35 paise from Rs 98.11 to Rs 98.46 per litre while diesel rates also increased by 25 paise from Rs 88.65 to Rs 88.90 per litre in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Mumbai, where petrol prices had crossed the Rs 104-mark on Saturday, were further raised by 34 paise from Rs 104.22 to Rs 104.56 per litre today. Diesel rates in the nation’s commercial capital were also hiked by 26 paise from Rs 96.16 to Rs 96.42 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the data of state run oil refineries, fuel prices are the highest in Mumbai while the fuel prices increased in Chennai and Kolkata too, varying across the states in India due to value-added tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chennai also saw an increase in fuel prices with petrol rising to Rs 99.49 per litre and diesel for Rs 93.46. In Kolkata, petrol was sold at Rs 98.30 per litre and diesel at Rs 91.75 per litre following the price rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol and diesel in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan near the India-Pakistan border was the first place in the country to see petrol hitting Rs 100 a litre mark in mid-February and earlier this month it also earned the distinction of diesel crossing that psychological mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any changes in fuel prices are implemented with effect from 6 am every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
